About this time last year, I collected several vintage Pings - anything with the 85029 zip on it. Mostly models from when I remember them from the early 70's. They were pretty easy to score on eBay and not expensive. Other than a little fun on the practice green, they did nothing but sit around. I decided I wanted something milled for my gamer so I bought a Never Compromise Milled Series 1 and sold the Pings except for the famous Anser. I think the NC is a good putter and we got along just fine. Then I got wind of the Bettinardi Black Carbon Series and the bug hit me. So I bought the BC2 and starting hanging around here.
That's where I learned of C & L and Byron and ordered one of each. I'm looking forward to their arrival. In the meantime, I read up on Sizemore, checked the site and pics and placed an order for an XB-1. Scott's customer service was second to none, my order was processed and delivered lickety spilt, right in the midst of the busy holiday season.
What I found attractive about the Sizemores was the unique head design and unusual finishes. I'm no expert on writing reviews, but I'll share my thoughts on my XB-1 in Chocolate Bar Finish...
This is a beautiful putter that is sure to catch the eye of your fellow players. If a Slighter is a Mercedes, this is a Ferrari - definitely an attention grabber. I've been using the Bett BC2 quite a bit and the feel of it is quite soft. The Sizemore gives a harder, click at impact and I noticed the ball takes off a little faster. The weight and balance are wonderful. This putter also has quite a bit of toe hang. Not sure what kind of shaft is installed, there are no steps. The grip is made by Karakal. Nice grip, but with my small hands (I wear a small cadet), it feels mid size to me. Those of you that like thinner grips may want to take note. An AM&E headcover signed by Bruce, wraps it up. Again, Scott's service was superb and I would highly recommend that anyone considering ordering a Sizemore putter to do it!
Happy holidays!
