I wanted to thank Steve, Drew and Byron for a job very well done! I wanted to show everyone my new baby! It's a bit different with a matte finish which is drop dead gorgeous and a blank sole (I really wish I could capture the true finish) and very unique stamping (if you ask me). I hope you guys like it becuase I know I do; thanks again guys...

You can't really see it but the 006 and the PROTO both have eyes. When it comes to the matte oil can finish; think Scottys Faxon; it turned out super cool! Inside of the neck has the actual weight of putter (354G) which I thought was a cool idea. Finished off with a matching Grip Master tan leather that matched the finish perfectly. it turned out awesome; I'm super pumped! again; Steve did a great job and was patient with me during the dark hours; thanks again my friend.

Me! I'm one of a kind; just ask Steve, Drew and Byron. Also; you will not find to many if any with a matte finish and star stamps and BYRON offset in the cavity. You can't tell in the pics but the cavity stamps are really offset to the far right. It was painful to drag these concepts out of Byron who always wants his putters to maintain a certain level of quality which I totally understand and agree with. Also; I had him soften all of the edges (I call this softfeel) for a very smooth and flowing look; different.

So it's not really a prototype, but a customized 006.....

littlepingman,
You got me on that one!!
It is a great looking putter and I like how he had it customized. But it's not a prototype......at least not what most people around here would call a prototype. Would Mills, Cameron, or Bettinardi stamp "PROTO" or "PROTOTYPE" on a slightly modified standard model putter?
I am not knocking the putter in any way. I think it is both unique and handsome.

Actualy, Yes they would. I've had about 3 mills so far stamped Proto and Prototype. If you want it on there, you can get it. Look on the Bettinardi Distributors and you will see more stamped with the Prototype Stamp. And Cameron...Does Newport 1.5 SS Prototype ring a bell...youknow..the same one that is the OTR NP 1.5

Sure sounded like a knock to me. Not necessarily a loud knock, but a knock, just the same. Enjoy the pics and leave it at that.
I have a few "Protos" that were slightly different than production and love each one.

golfluvzme,
Nope....didn't knock the putter one bit. The Byron 006 is a great putter. What Big Ben had done to the putter was great too. When I saw "PROTO" I was expecting to see an example of a new putter that Byron might introduce to the market. I wanted to know what was new. Then I found out it was a custom putter and not a prototype and noted that in a comment.
The only Cameron's that I have seen with "Protoype" on them were prototypes. I can't recall seeing a Mills or a Bettinardi that was not a prototype with a "Prototype" stamp.
I like my C & L putter just fine....I am not proud of it....it's a putter for crying out loud....but what does that have to do with anything here?

Sidewinder,
Only thing that got my attention was your reputation preceded you, going into that discussion. While you might not have intended it to come across as a knock, I was far from the only one who saw it, that way.
I mentioned your putter as it has often been something you make reference to. You should be proud of it, I am not knocking it, in any way, shape or form.
The Camerons that you see with "PROTOTYPE" on them, were not actual prototypes, believe me. They were a limited run of a style not yet in full-on production, the 1..5 Newport.
Heoppner already mentioned the Mills' putters in his collection, so that is a dead issue.
Yes, for crying out loud, they are only putters. I say you and I call it a "Dead Issue" and let this thread get back on track.
BIG BEN, sorry for the diversion. I could have stayed quiet...........................

First off Tp Mills was the pioneer of the proto stamping and if ben asked his putter be different and byron decided to go with it then who are you to question the artists discresion. As for having strong opinions i suggest doing the research to back up your acusations or just calm down step away form the edge of the roof and have some popcorn like the rest of us

Scott,
The only reason I asked, and I am now very sorry that I did, was to find out what was new or different from Byron on that nice 006 head. I am always interested to see what Byron is dong that is new or different. I guess every putter that has any variation from "standard" is a prototype instead of a custom putter. I guess the words "prototype" and "custom" don't mean what I thought they meant. Here is what I thought:
Prototype: the original or model on which something is based or formed.
Custom: made according to the specifications of an individual.
You can crucify me because I asked what made it a prototype and then made the comment that I though it was instead a custom putter. But it seems a little over the top especially since I always said it was a great looking putter. And I still do think it is a great looking putter. Heck, it is a great looking prototype putter!!
Scott
P.S. I have had the name "Scott" for quite a bit longer than you have....

Give it a rest Sidewinder. You conveniently refuse to acknowledge that your initial post was wrong, other putter makers will stamp prototype on a putter per request. I'm not sure if you have an issue with Byron/Affiliates but your post come off sounding snotty at times. Can't you just commend someones creation if you share in its appreciate, instead of baiting the hook.
Gorgeous putter Ben!!! I love my Byron also. Let us know how you get on with it!

Shagshow,
All my first post did was ask what made it a prototype. How is that wrong??? My mistake was commenting that I thought it was a custom putter instead of a prototype. I have never said that the putter was anything but great looking and no where have I ever suggested that Byron makes anything but great putters.
I'd give it a rest if you guys would.....jeez!

Ben your Prototype is Sweet. You chose the stampings and placements so it is your own custom prototype. I like the star stampings and I may put some on my next Byron. Custom Byron Prototype or just Byron Custom does not matter it's a keeper anyway you say it.

Dave,
Sorry you've had to endure this thread crapping.
If you design the stamps on your Byron putter, as Dave did, you can have it stamped "PROTO" if you wish.
Scott Winder's stated "interest" in Byron putters (as in "I am always interested to see what Byron is dong that is new or different.") should be understood in the context of his personal campaign to discourage people from buying Byron putters, which apparently stems from some problem he has with me.
I have apologized in prior threads (that I won't bother digging up) for whatever perceived injustice I caused Scott, and I offered to discuss whatever the issues he has, but he has not availed himself of that offer.
Enjoy your nice putter and ignore the b.s.
Cheers,

Drew has given me nothing but the Highest Level of service when I have purchased my Byron putters. For someone to take a post of somebody posting a Great Looking putter like Ben did and force some hidden agenda is something real desperate and very disturbing. The day is coming when you will not be able to post pictures of your new putters without somebody causing a stir. Back to the topic, I forgot to mention in my other post, that oil can on that putter is one of the Best I have seen on a Byron, Top Notch!

Drew,
The way you treated me caused a real sour taste in my mouth and I expressed my concerns to Bryon. I have since gotten over it and have sent several people to Byron that were looking for Newport 2 a or Anser 2 style putters. I don't know if they have purchased putters or not.
I may yet buy a Byron putter but hope that I deal with zmangolf (Steve) or Byron directly...
You posting a private email to Byron shows me something too....

P.S. Again, all I wanted to know what made it a prototype ...I wanted to know what was new from Byron!!!! I have said and will continue to say that it is a great looking putter. No agenda....no recommendation against the putter. I am sure it putts great just like every other Byron putter.
