Just rolled in and plopped down on the sofa, turned on the TV - on TGC as usual. Tom Kite's Playing Lessons from the Pros (2005) is on.

A couple of observations:

1. I never realized he was only ~5'9" (if that). I don't watch the Champions Tour much, so I hadn't seen him play in a number of years, but for some reason I remember him being much taller.

2. Damn! Nice swing! His swing is still so solid. His driver swing in particular was just beautiful.

3. He showed the wear spots on his wedges. Round spot smaller than the diameter of a golf ball dead on the sweet spot. Will Santa Claus deliver me a short game that is good enough to do that to my wedges? Please?

I saw a set of irons from Jack Nicklaus back in the late 80's... his wear spots from the PW to the 1 iron were no bigger than a NICKEL... and right in the middle of ALL of his irons!!! Not even a micro to the heel or toe on any of them!!!

Most impressive!! No wonder he was the talent he was!

I don't think anyone here keeps their golf clubs long enough to wear them out like that.

If you enjoyed the show, you'll love his DVD.

It's amazing how much width he maintains during his swing.

Sorry for being the unknowing person here, but does anyone know why his face got like that?

Haha, I agree for most people here. Probably not me though.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. Anybody know why?

I was playing in the US qualifier a few years ago and I was in the group with David Kite. Tom was caddying for David and I was pretty nervous. Tom was a great guy that day and always gave encouragement to everyone in the group. It was pretty funny to watch Tom rake the bunkers when we were done, but he was a class act all the way.

Tom is a relatively small man. 5'9 sounds about right and looks about right when standing right next to him. He is also very light skinned so I am sure that his face and arms have had some sun damage over the years.

I have played the course that Tom did the playing lessons on. For this area, that is a very fine golf course.

Of all of the Playing Lessons Series I've seen it is one of my favorites. The wedge drill he did toward the end here he shows how to vary both back swing and follow though based on distance but accelerate the same pace is one that stuck with me and that I've practiced. It has helped my wedge game a lot.

He, Gentle Ben, and Harvey are quite the historical threesome.

I have always liked Tom Kite. Being in the same group with him caddying must have been quite the experience, lucky you.
