So I'm going to be in Carslbad in a few months and I'd like to get a round in while I'm there.
The Crossings isn't getting much love, so I was thinking Torrey. Is it going to be uber difficult to walk on as a single if I go on a Monday? Would playing the North help?

If anyone has suggestions of where else to go I'd appreciate that as well.
Cheers!

Hi and just a quick note, you can get off if you get there early and as a single. I know guys that play it every week and they get to the course at 4 am and wait. But for what you will pay being non resident there are loads of courses around. Baron casino has a nice course and they just hosted the nationwide. I've played the south and from the back it is all the course you could ask for. I've heard that the north is just as nice but havn't played it. The short drive up the coast to OC and there are numerous courses that would be top of my list on a vacation.

Expect to pay about $150. I do not believe getting on as a single on a Monday would be all that difficult.

Thanks for the replies.
Hmm, there's no way I'm getting to a course at 4AM to wait for a spot, ever.
Barona is about an hour away from my hotel and I'd like something a little closer.

Are there any closer options that don't require me to sleep in the parking lot?

May sound a little strange, but why not make a tee time?? Was out there a couple years ago, and was able to make a tee time about a month out.

As a single?

yes you can make a tee time... they just charge a $25 fee for advanced tee times.

if you get their early.... just put your name in a get some breakfast at the Torrey Pines Lodge Grill. Its 2 feet from the putting green and makes great breakfast.

Just remember to sit outside so you can hear them call your name.

Also the starters are pretty good about estimating wait times..... you should not wait more than an hour or so.

OR I COULD MAKE A TEE TIME FOR YOU AND YOU COULD PAY MY LOCAL RATE.... smile.gif ha ha... even locals haver to go throw a phone system to make tee times and there are never any times available early and you can only make tee times 6 days out at most.

good luck

$25 for a reservation, interesting.
Hopefully Monday won't be too bad. I think I'll get breakfast and wait as suggested.

ELEME1210, let me know if you're interested in joining me or getting a group together.
I'm a 12.9 index in case that matters.
I'm looking at March 3rd.

One more Q: Is Torrey difficult to walk?
alez123
that depends on your definition of difficult. If you have a pull/push cart no. If you are a walker and carry your bag then yes it will be difficult for you since the land there is not flat more of an up and down spread over the entire course(s). If you are used to walking down hill then back up hill then you should have no big problems since for the most part the hills are not too steep.

I live in Carlsbad and have played TP many times. If you are reasonably fit you can walk either course. I'd check with TP in advance to find out if they have tournaments going on - if they are using one of the courses your chances of walking on are cut in half. Typically, though you won't have a problem as a single. Show up between 7 and 8am, check in, eat breakfast, hit balls and you should be able to tee it up.

Bring lots of balls - particularly if you're playing the South course a month after the Buick. The rough will be pretty heavy in places.

Also, I should add that they are doing a lot of work at TP in preparation for the US Open. Ask in advance about course condition, access, etc.

I am one of DIE-HARD going TP parking lot at 3AM and getting a number on every Sunday. So, I think I can explain all of things in detail.

1. Regarding weekday golf, if you can go TP around 5:30 and you can find the line of golf bag or club in front of starter booth. Then, You just put your golf stuff on the line. If there is 10 golf bag in front of yours, you are NO. 11. Never mind, Most of them are a single player or 2 sum. Starter will arrange you to other groups. Sometimes, you can play with one person or 2 persons, not a 4 sum. So, you are going to go TP around 5:30, put your golf stuff on the line and pay golf fee, stop by Torrey pine restaurant to have a cup of coffe and a muffin, then wait around No. 1 tee box. I bet you can start to play a golf at 7AM.

2. Regarding course condition, North is not good. Parking lot is under construction now to prepare Buick Invitational. No. 18 has temporary green. -.- South is better than North, but South will be under contruction after Buick Invitational in order to prepare US OPEN~~As far as I know, they will renovate a few holes to extend distance. IMO, I can not guarantee what will be happened on March, 3rd.

3. You can play a golf 18 hole by walking. To rent pull cart costs $5. I have no idea how much golf car is. (May be ~ $ 25 or 30).

BUMP!

NEW QUESTION:

I want to try and walk on to the south couse as a single sometime between now (Mid-April) and the US Open. I've done this before, but I don't know how packed the place is now that there's only 1.5 courses open and we're getting closer and closer to June.

Does anyone know how early I need to show up to do this?

The South course will be closed to the public as of May 21 and the North only has 9 holes open until May 12 when it closes until after the US Open. Link with more info

Has anyone walked on lately?
