Been checking my Golf Weather Forecast Site and I'm getting depressed. I play 60 Rounds a Season. Three months of Iffy, Possibly, perhaps, maybe, could be, slight chance, no chance, forget it.........is going to be hard to take. It gets worse every year. The game gets better and better and you just don't want to stop. When I complain about it, I get the "Hairy Eyeball" from my wife. Anybody know how to make three months go by in a week?

1.Plan you yearly vacation trips to a warm place .
2.Indoor driving range & indoor putting green.
3.Watch golf channel .
4.Pray for some good days in between crappy weather . Your regular partners may not be as hardcore and may betray you despite a reasonable weather .
I am glad in NM you can play year round .

Nice during winter is -5* C and 5 feet of snow, tough greens are a little slow when they have 5 feet of snow on them. LOL I have a vacation to Vegas in March but may have to take off in late January too!!! Indoor range is two hours away, but I'll hit it up a dozen or so times over the winter.

Pick something you can work on inside this winter then pick specific practice times to get her done.
Examples maybe you are interested in improving your grip you could get a good book on the grip and work on getting it right and making little half swings with it every day for a half hour
Improve your putting all you need is a carpet. There are tons of drills for improving your stroke
work on your posture and set up all you need is a mirror
a piece of astro turf a garbage can and some plastic balls make for great chipping practice
There are a lot of things you can work on to improve your game this winter.

I am in the same boat, I have played almost 70 rounds in 2007. In fact, I'll be squeezing in my last rounds in Pinehurst over the weekend. I too feel "gipped" by Dec, Jan, Feb and most of March. My game peaks in October and then it's time to put the clubs away. Heck I didn't play at all in Nov either, come to think of it.
I usually buy lots of golf balls and other assorted golf items (more putters) and can "justify" it by telling myself that I am not spending money on greens fees! Do yourself a favor and do the following:
1. Buy a dozen or two golf balls every two weeks.
2. Order a custom Byron putter, or two.
3. Order a custom 350 Milled putter, or two.
Purchase any wedge (Cleveland 588 Oil Can DSG's would be nice) or a fairway wood (Ping G10) you see that strikes your fancy.
And by all means, DON'T tell the wife.

Hey Rony,
Isn't Bethpage open year round? I know Dyker Beach and Marine Park in Brooklyn have been open in the winter months before. The lowest temp. i'd golf in is about 35-40. Hahaha. What exactly does a hairy eyeball look like?

Blutrane, Yes, all the courses are open out here on the Island, most of them year round. Bethpage only closes on Christmas Day. Its just that I don't like to play unless its at least 45*. A Hairy Eyeball Look is kind of like a "What ju talkin bout Willis" .........type of look.

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions. It shows me that at least I'm not alone with this. My wife said to me the other day, "Honey, You're a well educated, good looking, well dressed, nice guy. And you make a very good living. But, this OCG, (Obsessive, Compulsive, Golfer) thing, is going to drive me to drink." I said, "Lets take my car, it's faster."

I'm in the same boat as rony, being from Astoria, NY (Queens). All the NYC public courses are open year-round, but like rony said, I don't enjoy playing golf in temperatures below 50°. The game is hard enough for me in the 70's and 80's, but when it's 50's and below, I'm just dreadful.
I think I'm going to plan a trip to Jacksonville, I have some friends down there...

I will be heading out tomorrow afternoon, high of 40 degree's...but I don't care, the grass is still green, not white

I'll probably work on some inside projects, creating my own yardage books for local courses using Google Maps & Photoshop. Might start working on a local website for golfers in the area...and of course, sit on GolfWRX as much as I can and express my blues with everyone else.

There you go. Head South. I just checked my log book. I played 2 times last December. (Actually played on Christmas Eve). I played 1 time in January and 1 time in February. Those 4 times, the temperature was 50* or better. The rest of the 3 month "Down Time" was spent bending LIE Angles off the mats at the Range. Uggh! At least they have all enclosed hitting stations with heaters. It actually gets too hot and I constantly have to ask them to turn them down. Sometimes when I'm at that range on a day with inclement weather, I think to myself, "If some of my friends and family knew I was here and doing this, they'd think I don't have both Oars in the Water

."

Have your club guy check your fittings. Make sure your swing hasn't changed.
Send your clubs out to be blueprinted and gripped. That gives you at least a week off while they check your lengths, lofts, lies, swingweights, and regrip them.
Work on putting.
Work on chipping.
Polish your shoes and change out your spikes.
Clean out your bag of junk and load it with tees, balls, divot tools, etc.
Sell any clubs that you want to get rid of or donate them to First Tee.
Stock up on gloves, tees, balls.
Read up on reviews of new shafts, clubs, balls, etc. See if there's anything you might want to try next season.
Thoroughly clean your clubs and grooves.
By the time you're done with all that, you should be ready to go next season.
If you still have time to kill, go to the gym or stretch and work on your swing/posture.

You should take up skiing.
Skiing does require a bit more athletiicism compared to golf, but the resorts and equipment can keep anyone pretty excited just as golf does over the summer. The similarities are endless. There are actually some pretty good ski forums out there and I know of at least 1 or 2 members here that are on them. You'd find it hilarious to find there are "gear ho's" for other sports and guys buying back ups of certain types of skiis just as we do with drivers. There are of course people claiming to have skied 150 days a year or gone down some impossible line (equiv. to hitting it 300 yds) as well.

I plan on working on my grip and finish getting my Hogans ready for next season. I finished the paint fills now they need new grips.
I usually practice putting and chipping in the house after the wife and kids go to sleep. I use the foam balls for chipping and a real ball to putt on the carpet. I just drop a coaster on the floor and try to hit it center from different angles and distances. I'm hoping to get back into my work out too. Been slacking on it since the baby was born earlier this year.

If you have any relative, friends in the warmer States, it's time to plan a visit.
There are also great package deal for the States of New Mexico, Arizona, California.
Otherwise plan on some other activities indoor to benefit your golf game for next Spring, build up your golfing muscle and flexibility.

Not that I know of. I just use a College ruled single subject binder and record the Date, Course Name, Walk/Ride, Fairways Hit, GIR, Sand Saves, Total Putts, Score. Gives me a quick reference as to how close I am to "Cutting My Throat".

I bought one of those cart enclosures and a catalytic propane heater earlier this year when the prices were down. Not something I ever thought I'd do, but I knew some guys that had them and they play all winter as long as there isn't snow on the ground. Now if I could just get some time off to play! There's one course near me that has cart paths all of the way around that stays open all winter and will let carts out as long as there isn't a foot of snow on the ground.
I also chip and putt around the house, constantly. Drives my wife crazy!
There's a driving range with heated stalls that scratches the itch when necessary. As long as it's not too windy, that's always an option.
Living in Ohio, it's only about a 6 hour drive to Tennessee where you can play year long. Hop in the car with the wife for a long weekend. She shops and I play. Kind of works out well.

I am in Northeast Ohio so my golf season is pretty much over as well. Every year I go through huge club splurges over the winter to help me get through the crappy weather. Like many others' above posts, my wife doesn't seem to understand my obsession!

Practise putting and chipping indoors.
Swing a club daily in front of mirrors.
Catch up on your golf reading. Plenty of books out there.
Workout more.
