What do you guys do when you want to change you game putter? Do you have a ritual, do you just yank one and add another?
Oh, by the way:
My name is John and I am a putter HO.
I have around 40 putters; many haven't many of which have never been in the bag for a round. I have taken 3 or 4 putters to the course with the idea of one beating out the gamer. Both lost and went back in the truck.
I know that I am not the only neurotic with seperation issues. Let's hear a few tales of how you change putters.

Oh great. I love these types of threads.
I hope Chris puts his two cents in

See, I buy putters, but rarely is it my intention to replace my gamer. They just kind of sit there. I guess it's a form of gluttony. I buy a lot of southpaw putters so they don't fall into the wrong hands (other southpaws

).

It really comes down to comfort level at address for me. Some putters just really please the eye standing over the ball. If a putter puts me at that comfort level, the rest is fundamental mechanics of a putter stroke.

I am sure that I have owned well over 100 putters in my career as a professional, and my mantra was when it was not working, I would give it another round, if after the second round of not working, it was out. On to the next one that would take me where I figured I should be putting wise. Simple as that....there were putters that lasted for days, weeks, and months. There are some that lasted for a bit, one putter lasted for years and that was an original Scotty Cameron Golf Company (pre-titleist), the Scotty that I got when I qualified for my one PGA tour event, and the Taylor Made that I got fitted for at the Kingdom by Kia. Those and a handful of others have stayed around, all the others have gone by the wayside.....
Such a shame too...If I had kept half of the putters that I acquired I would have a sweet, extremely valuable collection, that is for sure....

I have two gamers (basically the same head but one is stainless and the other is nickel plated carbon). Every other putter that comes into my house knows those two are the alpha dogs and everything else is around only for amusement.
Thankfully, I am very grounded in my head style, length and weight.

My problem is that I love looking at them, but that there is only one type that will ever suit my style: face-balanced. Problem is, I hate the look of basically all face balanced putters...
It's crazy! I'm only 18 and I have 4 putters...

I regularly change putters. Bar 3 collector edition putters, every other putter I have bought was a gamer. While I recognize it's the workman not the tools at fault with my putting, I live in continual hope that I find a putter that lifts me to a level that would be comparable to the best Pro putters. I still search and buy, but as I only want the putter to use on the course I can't really be considered a putter ho.....can I?

I'm 17 and I currently own 8 putters: 7 scotty camerons and the other one is Handmade by myself... I have 2-3 gamers (Newport studio style 1.5, Teryllium 10, handmade) and all the other ones come into play when I need to feel something different when I make contact with the ball. sometimes it's just a confidence issue, I change putter for 1-2 rounds and then I go back to my trusty gamer.

I am a very firm beliver that it is always the Arrows fault, not the Indians. No real reason ever to switch putters, just do it when I feel like it. Not really sure what I am up to now, but the wife sent me this pic of my office back home...Should be a good Christmas. LOL It seems like it's always just fun to buy a putter, it doesn't matter if it's an older ping, or a tour putter.

I start by placing my putter in "Time Out" mode. It goes back in the bag without the headcover and will stay "naked" until it starts making putts again. If I finish 18 without the headcover on, it's gone the next round.
Since all my putters are 8802 style with identical loft/lie/length/swingweight, etc. It's just a question of manufacturer and how much offset that particular head has.
Game them all!

When I replace my putter with a new one I don't let it see the new one so it doesn't get jealous.

This and the "Time-Out" idea show some promise in getting my herd under control. I have thought about putting them in a trash bag and throwing them in the crawl space.

My moto is "why buy them if you can't try them". I continuously tinker with my equipment, especially the putter. It also keeps things interesting, because you never know what to expect. I have played with 18 different putters this year alone. My problem is that I can putt well with anything, but never have great putting rounds consistently . Still searching for my perfect match.

I will usually just go to a store, not with the intention to buy a putter, but then i will see a putter that i like and i will buy it. Whether or not it makes it into my bag is a different question.

Welcome to my world. Although I went to test the Tri-Ball and 2-Ball and came home with a Scotty Newport 2, 34-340. This will be a gamer. I really want the Odyssey Black #9.......

After purchasing my 350 Milled, I tried a new approach and sold off ALL of my other putters in order to force myself into a gamer. So glad I did, as the 350 and I are getting along VERY VERY well these days.

Becoming a putter ho allows me to understand my girlfriend obsession with shoes. I have never been happier with a putter than the one I have now (been in the bag for over a year), however I keep looking and buying new putters with no intention of playing them. This has to be some sort of illness.

For me, it's a matter of MOJO. A few bad putts here or there, a few putts not falling in when they should etc.... (It can't be my stroke right!!!

Anyway as soon as these start to happen over a couple of rounds, the backup is put into play! I really prefer Anser/Newport style heads, but the My Day / Laguna style heads are really peaking my interest right now. Oh well, just another purchase to make.

I have a small, but growing, collection of putters. While my favorite style is Newport 2, I like to collect putters that are very different from one another (Futura, Monza Corza, etc) so that when I switch I feel like it's a big switch. But those always start to misbehave quickly and it's back to Scotty.
