Hi Golfwrx's HI member, I'll be playing on Maui at the Wailea Gold Course next week and was wondering if I should take the 5wood (18*) or the hybrid (19*), both go generally the same distance, but I was worried that the ball flight maybe too high for the wood considering the wind conditions there in Maui. I'm leaning towards the hybrid since its a lower ball flight overall and it may keep it below the wind. Your thoughts?

Also, how's the bunker/sand quality at Gold - should I bring the higher bounce wedge for the finer sand, or the lower bounce wedge for the more packed sand?

Lastly, overall how's the Gold Course in your opinion?

Your responses are greatly appreciated. Thx all!

Wailea typically is not too windy, so you can pick your poison.

I haven't played there in a while, but the last time I played, the sand was pretty soft. A higher bounce SW would be better.

The Gold course is nice. One of the better ones on the island. If you are staying on that side of the island, you may want to also try the Makena courses. They are about 2 minutes down the road and like the Wailea courses provide good golf with outstanding views.

Take a light shirt and lots of sunscreen as the south shore of Maui gets pretty hot and humid.

The weather has been a little iffy lately, but if anywhere in the state will be dry, the Wailea/Makena area would be it. Good luck. Have a great time and spend lots of money to stimulate our local economy.
