This is the first week with no golf. Does Anyone else miss it already?
FLAis4golferz
you bet. I havn't hit balls for a week and a half nevermind play... I'm moving to Florida soon, though... biggrin.gif

How could you miss it already when the tournament wouldn't start for 2 more days anyway?

I think we should see the "Winter Series", and have the pros play in crap conditions like we have to: Losing balls under leaves, putting through 1/2" aeration holes, 40 degrees, 20 mph winds...

Now THAT I'd watch.

I was just lamenting last night as I pulled my clubs from the trunk. I am waiting for once nice day, just one more time, to golf my ball!

I think the OP was talking about amateur/recreational golf that we personally play...but I second that comment. I would love to see more events in weather no more tolerable than during the Solheim Cup.

you obviously need to move. just play 9 yesterday morning. shot a 34 on a 31 little 9 hole course, and then went and BBQ'd for the Sunday NFL games on DIRECT TV NFL Ticket. In fact I even ordered new clubs last night off of eBay and am going to play them this weekend. 70's and sunny is the forecast!

Well, I have apartments (for business) in both the northeast US, and Mexico City (where, as I write this, it is 78* outside my window).

Strange how much more business I seem to need to do in Mexico City between November and April ... wink.gif

Yeah I know how you feel its supposed to be mid sixtys here this weekend I really hate wearing long pants .

Let's see... I played last Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and then again yesterday. We are going tomorrow, and we're planning our trip for Thursday to The Falls.

There is at least one advantage to living the hellish south. BTW--we'll play golf pretty much year round here, with a couple of weeks exception. haha.gif

Sucks to be you guys.

I played 9 holes in Montreal on Sunday. Sunny ; 3 degrees celcius ( about 40 degrees F ?) ; wore winter gloves between shots; wore a sweater over a long sleeve golf shirt, covered in a sleeveless down vest ; started out with a wind shirt over the sweater, but got too hot with the wind shirt.

Neatest thing was fixing ball marks on the green; the surface of the green was not frozen, but the repair tool made it clear that the ground was still frozen below the surface.

Next golf will probably be in California in Februrary ( vacation ) .

What do you mean "ended" COme to FLA and play year round
ChrisM84
The only difference to the golf season here in FL is maybe going from shorts to pants.

floyd
I live in Ga so we play pretty much all year round, on a cold day it will be 45.

I feel you on the end of the season. I live in Ithaca, NY and have placed the clubs in the closet for the winter. It sucks even more since I only played golf in May, August, and September due to a knee injury. I try not to think how long its going to be until I play again and focus on what golf gear I'm going to get for Christmas. There is also an indoor simulator nearby that I might try out this winter.

No golf? played Friday and Saturday snow this weekend, but 50 on Tuesday. Long range forcast is for cloudy skyes Wednesday thru Sunday(on vacation) so I expect to play at least 2 rounds after Thankgiving. Will play all year if there is a course open and no snow on the greens.... clapping.gif clapping.gif clapping.gif

Probably not the best place for this post, but maybe a good place for me to unpack some mental baggage.

I don't know if there are any other "Monday Monty's" on this site or not and, factually, it really doesn't matter. What matters is that everyone who has ever played this game has most certainly suffered under the massive weight of .... WHAT IF !

On my annual pilgrimage to download the list of contacts and dates for tournament pre-qual's and qualifiers for the 2008 season [that to my disappointment haven't been posted yet], I felt the familiar tapping of an old friend at the door of my all too fragile golf-psyche. For our purposes, we'll call this familiar old friend "MR. WHAT IF". I say familiar, in that his visitations have become as much an annual occurence as family birthdays, tax deadlines and Christmas.... Not wanting to seem inhospitable, I of course (and foolishly) opened the door inviting him in. This year, Mr. WHAT IF came with a sack of recriminations that would have made 3 golfers wince.

First out of his bag, it was posed, .....Have you ever shown up at a new course three days early to play a practice round; hired a local course-marshal to caddie for you; shot 4 under the first time you saw the track; thought to yourself that it was going to take 5 under or better to get a spot; shot only 1 under on the front, when it counted; pressed too hard on the back-nine finishing 1 over; only to get into the clubhouse to find even-par got the spot... ? MR. WHAT IF, cruelly, reminded me that "I had!" In my own defense, I quietly retorted ....there are no scoreboards at Monday qualifiers. How was I to know ?

MR. WHAT IF simply smiled and, again, reached into his bag ....Have you ever Birdied the same par 5 through 2 practice round with a strategy of making it a 3-shot hole, only to try and reach it in two on the day of reckoning; from a downhill lie; over a pond; to a tucked back left pin; with a 2-iron; watched it splash; and left youself finishing one off the number... ? No reminder needed, I had!

Though only two of the too many such incidents, I at least feel some sense of catharsis and can now answer the question originally posed .... Am I sad to see the 07" over and jones'n for 08"? Yes to both..... as it is my sincerest belief that, if you're going to play this game, you had better have two things, optimism and a short memory. wink.gif

I assume the question refers to missing tournament golf...not a bit, it's the time of year where I watch my beloved Vikings play some seriously inconsistent football and catch up on all the work I put off doing during the summer months. The professional tour has expanded the season beyond the boundaries of sensibility into overkill territory. If I miss it too much I just grab my trusty Hogan Apex 3 iron, put on a pair of suspenders so my pants don't fall down when my butt falls off because it's 33* with a wind chill at 25* and hit some really thin shots. Couple of those and my hands buzz for a couple of weeks and I remember why golf is a warm weather sport.

Amen to that!

You guys make me sick my season was over in early October!! We have over 2 feet of snow, and I'm ready to kill myself. Anyone need a Commercial Credit writer in a southern State???? I need to get out of dodge this is hard on my golf obsession!!!
italianstallion
Played my last round on the 16th of November. It was a nice day, warm but very windy. Still managed to sqeeze in 18 holes in 1 hour, 45 mins with a cart and shot 79. Last hole got a little hairy when I hooked my drive, but it was a par 5 so I still scrambled for my par. Thank God they rebuilt the golf dome near me.

The end of the golf season means the start of a new season, GolfWRX season!

Living in Northeast Ohio, I haven't played in about a month so that is when my season ended. Now I am definitely jonesing and starting my annual "I need to buy everything I look at" splurge. It is mostly putters and there really isn't any reason to change equipment from one year to the next but for some reason, I do!

I guess it is a good way to pass the time until I can start playing again next Spring.
The Boom Bapp
YES I AM.

It is much colder here in Philly but when a nice day hits, I am out. Played 2 rounds the day before Turkey Day and still get plenty of European Tour action on TV. When it is cold outside, I go play at Play-a-round Golf in Malvern PA on Doppler Sims. Also hit Golf Galaxy where some of my friends work and hit the driving range for an hour or so!

I have it bad. I havent played for 3 weeks.

Yesterday we had freezing rain, this AM 50d with sun and 25 mph wind, that lasted until 1030 AM when a line of thunderstorms blew through. The temp dropped 20 degrees through the afternoon and the wind picked up.

So far I have "fed the beast" by adding some equipment from year end sales........long way to go until early April when life with golf resumes.
Ditty_72
I'm definitely jonesing to play again. Or even hit balls again. I can't even hit balls for 6 weeks (well, 4 and a half more) because of a spleen problem. No strenuous activity. So no golf at all russian_roulette.gif This is gonna kill me. I was striking it pretty well for winter golf too black eye.gif

86 and sunny here today partytime2.gif

Let's see... This week I played Thursday & Friday afternoon, and then again on Saturday.

Gotta rub it in, since we paid our dues this summer (golf in Houston in August is HOT & HUMID)
beachgrovejunior
Well 6 inches of snow ended my season for sure, i think im going to take some time off, not hit a ball for 1 or 2 months
