I'm looking to find some golfing partners in my area that are about as good as me if not better. Not to mislead, I am not that good, low to mid 80's, but the guys I usually play with are playing well over 100. In fact, I played against all four of them, me straight up, them scrambling, and beat them.

I really want to take my game to the next level, competition. I would like to start playing in some local and state competitions, so I need to get down to the low 70's at least. How would you all suggest finding some playing partners who would challenge me on a weekly basis? My biggest problem is that no one I know would fit this category!

Do you play regularly at the same place? If you do, the assistant pros etc are a good place to start.

join a private course

Join a mens league. Most of the better players play in mens league events. Good way to meet new players and play in some small competitions. Check to see if your local course has a league.

A fellow WRXer would be a good bet. I have golfed with a few people that I had never met before, but only thru wrx.

Don't lose sight of the fact that the guys you want to join that shoot in the 70's may not want to play with you for the same reasons you don't want to play with the guys shooting higher than you. It is a two-way street.

Just tell the pro you would like to play with some good regulars, he knows the guys who frequent his course. If you really want to get good, ask the pro where you could play in some low stakes money games, make a donation, and the guys will you will open arms! But you may get crushed first, but they'll let you play because you paid, and you and your scores will adjust to the level of competition, or you'll go broke

It's a good point, but I think the difference between a 70s shooter and a lo/mid 80s shooter is far different than a lo/mid 80s shooter and a 100+ shooter. The difference between a 70s shooter and an 80s shooter is mostly short game and the ability to take advantage of par 5s. A 100+ shooter is still having issues getting the ball off the tee, getting out of bunkers, keeping it on the right fairway. I think an 80s shooter can keep up with a 70s shooter without impeding their game, I'm not sure if that is so for a 100+ shooter and an 80s shooter.

As noted by several response, join a local man's club for hadicap keeping and league tournaments.
From there you should find golfers on your level to hook up with your weekly game.
Find out from the pro shop where is the largest pool of man's club for competition golf, we have a muni here that has over 700 members in the man's club, great opportunity to meet some high caliber players.

You could try something like the Golf Galaxy Golf Tour. I dunno if it's available in your area.
