just played the ocean on friday. caddies (jason and wayne) were great. service and course is first class.

I played there about a year ago. There were 8 of us and we used forecaddies, one per foursome. Our caddie was a student and golfer at the College of Charleston. He was very personable and very informative. From tee to green, I think it is vital to have at least a forecaddie.

The reads on the greens weren't as difficult. It became a joke with our foursome that the reads on the putts were almost always, "looks straight to me." There was much less break on the greens than we were used to. From hole 10-13 or 14 the line off the tee is usually at the "gazebo". So, on those holes, if all else fails, aim at the gazebo. You'll see what I mean.

You are going to LOVE this course.

Are caddies available for the other resort courses? I'm playing Osprey and Cougar Point in a few weeks.

all the ones that have been with our groups have been great. if you have a staff bag, they will put your clubs in a stand bag to carry them. i found some them willl make some great small talk and really help relax you - or at least it did me. they have the perfect balance of helping you, but not getting in the way.

no, just the ocean course. played the osprey course for the first time this summer and for me its second only to the ocean course. you will really really enjoy it. very under rated course. played cougar point last winter and it ranks last of the kiawah island courses for me. its target golf, with small greens, but the layout just didn't do anything for me.

That's too bad, I've like a lot of Player's designs. How does the Nicklaus course compare? Maybe I can change my tee time.

i really liked the nicklaus course and put it as a close third to the osprey course. i'm not saying i am a fan of tom fazio courses, but i've always liked them - don't know why. the nicklaus course is very fair, but does require some shot shaping. when i played it i didn't have a draw that i could hit and i suffered through the round. i imagine now, it would be a much more managable course.

Thanks so much for your input. I can't wait to get down there.

no love for oak point?

Oak Point is not a good golf course.

As far as I'm concerned, these are the rankings:

Ocean
Cassique
River
Turtle
Osprey
Cougar
Oak

Oak Point is not in the same class as The Ocean or Osprey , but it is a fun golf course that has some good views of the river .

As I was finishing 18 this past summer it was fun to watch a few dolphins feeding right off the 18th green .

Just to follow up on my trip, played Osprey on Friday and Cougar Saturday. 65 and sunny both days, truly delightful trip. Kiawah is an awesome place, I can't wait to get back down there. I enjoyed both courses, though I'll admit my final take was a bit different then most here. Osprey was fun to play, it has a very impressive clubhouse, and there were alligators aplenty, but the greens were slow, and there really weren't many memorable holes. Cougar seemed to be in better shape, had some very quick greens, and the holes along the Kiawah River were very impressive. The par 3's especially were both beautiful and demanding. Both were enjoyable, but I came away liking Cougar better. Each had a nice grass range to warm up on, and the service at each course was fantastic. I can't wait to go back and play the Ocean and Turtle Point courses, too. The wedding I was down there for was held fifty yards from the 18th green at the private River Course, I've got to figure out a way to get on that track, too.
