hi, obtained a scotty cameron newport 2 a few years, it was an old style putter in the newer pro platinum finish which someone put a tiger dot(guessing not original), it is in near mint original condition with no real dings in the topline or the bumpers and the finish is near perfect with red paintfill, it has deep mill marks on the face and neck with no stamp on neck or sign of refinish, microstep shaft and baby t grip, i advertised it in for sale and member said it was a shame about the dot because it could be tour or a vip putter which would be rare and more valuable(not wanting to sell to cheap or falsly advertise), firstly could anyone shed any light on if this is a rare cameron, and if it is could the scotty shop refinish and remove that ugly dot, any help appreciated, i know there are some experts about here, many thanks ,ben

What is on the bottom of the Putter??

They won't remove the dot...it is milled too deeply and you will lose the face engravings. As far as the putter, if it is indeed an authentic finish, which I believe it is due to the mill marks on the neck and flange, then yes it is a rare putter that was made for the tour and VIP clients of Scotty. There are a handful in the registry labeled as such.

So much for the reputation of this place being a Scotty-bash forum.

i like the fact that people take time out to answer my questions, there really are good people willing to help and it is much appreciated, i thought i would be ruined for having a modified scotty as this seems to be sacrilidge round here, does anybody know how much the dot will affect the resale price considering the rest of the head is almost mint condition especially for the age, i dont really get on with it and would rather put the cash toward some new irons

Also what would the heading say, could i confidently describe this as a tour, vip putter with a modification, i dont want to mislead someone

I believe it was '96 that Scooty made up a number of Gun Metals in a Pro Plat finish and designated them Tour, however I'm sure about the orgin of the dot.

I wouldn't claim anything in regards to "tour" or "rare" unless you have a COA to back it.
benje
think i will send it for coa to clarify, will this make it more saleable, thinking of having paintfill restored while its there, any other options i should go for, ill probably still sell it once its back
ckay
If you are going to sell it, I wouldn't put additional money into getting it authenticated for a C certificate. People won't buy it in the BST because of the aftermarket dot. I doubt you'd recoup your costs selling it with a C certificate, even if it deemed to be tour.

Is this one of the cameons that Slghter added a fake dot to?
