I've got a mini-tournament this weekend with five players. Can anyone suggest a fair betting game? Only one player has established handicap, 10, with three others shooting around 100-110, and the fifth shooting a whole bunch.

Any suggestions?

You may want to take them bowling... cheesy.gif All kidding aside..We usually play wolf with five guys.

left vs right whatever it's called.
Best ball of the 3 most left players vs the 2 most right players after tee shots are hit on each hole.
Or vice versa.

Wolf is always a good one...but favours the low capper the most.

Bingo/bango/bongo is a good one for guys with very different caps.

A good game that is also helpful to your game is, I don't know what its called, maybe points, but anyway, you get 1 point for a fairway hit off the tee, 1 point for a gir & 1 point for a one putt. You can set your own monetary value for each point. We sometimes count a point for a 'skin' and also a ' greenie'.

Thanks guys!

The big problem I'm having is the disparity in ability. I usually shoot in mid to low 80's, and a few of my amigo's, who don't play much shoot a little over 100 (with each hole capped at double par). The fifth guy, doesn't play and will likely max out double par on each hole.

Based on this, I think we're going to play a scramble so it doesn't take all day. The only question remaining is how to divide the teams so it is a fair bet.

What clubs allow 5 somes????????????

wolf or captain

Captain/Wolf - essentially this is Wolf, but played in a scramble format correct?

Also, almost all public golf courses in the MS/LA area allow fivesomes, if not more. Two Jackson, MS area courses have closed in the last 12-months with our two muni's running in the negative. I guess slow play is a lot better than going out of business. We don't even have a lighted driving range in my county or within 25 minutes.

Also, I played this past weekend at Canton CC behind a group of 7 (some walking and some riding). They never let us play through and read every put like it was worth $100. I just enjoyed the weather.

When our group has more than 4 and cant play a match we throw 5 in for skins and we chase three 6 hole rabbits with carry overs for 2 or 3 $ a rabbit , it's not a lot of money and keeps the interest going

a lot of them as long, as you agree to take carts and keep up pace.

Just another game, not necessarily for 5 somes but allows for some excitement
it's called: birdie, dickie, poley.
Make a birdie, collect from every player
3 putt, you pay every player
make a putt longer than the flag stick, collect from evey player

How do you guys play Wolf with a fivesome? Ive always played with 4. Do you just have the teams 3v2 on every hole? How do you decide who gets the 3 on their team? Any other game suggestions for 5somes?

Sorry for so many questions, lol.

Thanks!

I play this game with my friends, but we call it "dots" lol. also a putt made outside of the flagstick for par or better we give out a dot. Also for birdie, eagle, and of course ace get dots also. Pretty fun

Don't think I've ever seen a 5 some. What sort of time you guys get round in a 5 some with 4 of them shooting over 100. I think the decent thing here would be to tell everyone when and where you're playing so we can all avoid it.

The only game I know of with a 5some is "Avoid the Ranger!".

Yup generally 3vs2 (wolf and who he picks vs the rest), and the 4vs1 if you go lone wolf.
You can mess around with the point scoring to ensure "fairness."

e.g. Going lone wolf scores you big points as you are playing against the best ball of the other 4....but we also ensure the wolf doesn't get hammered in points if he doesn't win so players are still willing to go it alone.

Wolf is also our choice when playing a fivesome.
And yes, we're allowed fivesomes, and we typically play in 4 hours or less UNLESS we've got some bozo's in front of us holding us back.
