It seems I have to play for something to keep my head in the game. My spread is a dollar a hole to a 5 dollar six point scotch game. I guess Im not a true gambler. I just need something on the table to arouse my interest. How about you? Any hardcore gamblers out there or are y'all in my camp?

It depends who I am playing with. There's a couple of my friends who play with quite a lot on it. For example, we might play £20 with automatic presses. That being another game starts at flat as soon as someone goes 2up in any of the other games running. The bet on these is half the original stake. We also play £1 bits, where you win a bit for birdies, nearest the pin on the par threes, chip ins, sandy pars. Can quite easily have £50 changing hands (about $85) in a game. I don't get any more extreme than that.

My group plays 2 dollars bets, pick all your own bets. 1 on 1, 2 man teams, 3 man teams, 4 man teams. We also do 10 dollar skins. Doesnt sound like much but have 6-7 bets and play bad, you are out over $100 easy.

i have to be gambling out there otherwise i will lose interest and be thinking about how i should be out on the range or back in the office working on stuff... favorite game is probably a $5 nassau, automatic press when you're one down; great game and if evenly matched, once you get to #14 or #15 each hole can be worth about $50... that'll keep me interested; i don't play real large sums though... except for one time i did play a co-worker, who had been talking smack, for paychecks... that was fun! yahoo.gif cha-ching

Good point...

Almost always have something out there on the line but its never gotten above $300 for a round.

Skins with my usually fourball. Not great amounts of money (haven't got much to loose) but it's good fun and keeps you playing reasonably competitively.

I play $2 points (skins, closest to, birdies) and a couple of side bets. But, my uncle in Chicago and his group play big stakes. They start at $25 or $50 per point and double that ("pressure") at the turn if everyone agrees. Sometimes they start at $50 per point and double that at the turn. In a 5-round, 3-day trip in September I saw someone lose over $2,500. Funny thing is that over the course of the golfing season, nobody loses terribly. There's usually a guy $2,000 or $3,000 up, and one $2,000 or $3,000 down, and everyone else is pretty much even. That's big gambling for a bunch of 10 handicappers.

There's a bunch of people at a club near me who play every Saturday and Sunday morning. Same fourball always. They play skins for £1,000 (about $1,700 at t' mo) a hole. They keep a record of who owes who what and settle up at the end of the year. Supposedly it's only ever four figures on the cheque.

Many people play good for free, put up even a small amount of money and watch the choke.

We don't play for big bucks though: Skins are worth 4 dollars (we carry over) and auto press at 2 down; 1.00 for greenies, chippies, sandies, birdies, 2.00 for an eagle; change partners every 6 holes - usually 5.00 - 6.00 and presses for each 3 sets. Side bets between individuals 5.00 front-back-overall.

Good day can win about 50.00 - 75.00, bad day lose 35.00. pimp.gif

Was the Pope Polish?......Does a bear $hit in the woods? Of course you put some greenbacks on the line when you're out playing.
VTHOKIES
Do I gamble? The answer is usually yes. We play &25 nassau automatic 2 down press with $10 skins, $20 snakes (last 3 putt loses) and $10 birdies. If you play well you can usually win $200-$300 but most of the time someone wins $20 or so but it gets pretty interesting and keeps me interested in trying over every shot. Sometimes the bet is more pressure then playing in a tournament.

gambling just adds incentive and adds pressure. My friend and i play match and stoke play matches for $5 bucks each and keep a running tab

Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir....

I don't mind playing for a couple of bucks, but I've played a lot as a single joining a two or threesome, and I don't like to play people I don't know for money.

A thing my buddies and I just tried this past week was a put up a score for each other to beat. Since we're all different handicaps that range from low to high, we figured this would be a challenging way without getting ridiculous on giving out strokes per hole.

For example my score they put up for me was 77, the other guys were 105, 84. Whoever posted a score lower then what the other guys put up for them won the pot. If you shot over the score you were automatically out.
