Full Version: Do all-white golf shoes go "out of season?"

Hey all,

(Nevermind that some of you will claim that white shoes are out-of-FASHION, let alone the question about them being out-of-season...)

Do you think that white shoes shouldn't be worn after the summer?

Seems like just about anything goes, style-wise, in golf anymore.. But what about WHEN to wear something? I'm sure that Mommy Dearest would flip, but does anyone else think that white shoes ought to be put away after Labor Day? Here, above the Mason-Dixon line, can you wear them as long as it's warm out? Can you wear 'em when it's about to snow? Are there ANY "rules" on this?

(This is probably geared toward the people in the north/northeast regions where we have all four seasons.)

Thanks!

PS -- No, it DOESN'T really matter to me. Just thought I'd ask, though. smile.gif

What you going to play golf or to a fashion show? rofl.gif
AcesAZ
I wear them whenever, doesn't matter if it's fall, winter, spring or summer. I don't think your golfing buddies will care if your shoes are not "in season". laugh.gif

Please re-read the "PS" in my post. LOL

Seriously, though... This came up last weekend when a buddy of mine was ripping on another friend of mine who was wearing all-white shoes. The guy made a comment about it being a little late in the season for them (despite the fact that it was 88° and humid on October 6th here in PA). Frankly, I never thought about it before. Maybe I just need to pick better golf partners who aren't phased by this stuff. crazy.gif

All kidding aside, If i'm wearing shorts I will go with white or black, but with pants i'll wear black.
mozgolf
i think they went out of season in about 1987

I wear what I want, when I want and I could care less what the fashion police think. If it is comfortable and functional, go for it.

I wear all white golf shoes for 99% of my rounds, and I am extremely stylish if I do say so myself. I think you should avoid wearing them with black pants though. There is not a time of year in which golfers need to switch up their styling. Remember if you are a good player, whatever you do is in style to everyone else.

I prefer wearing all white shoes w shorts and light colored slacks as long as possible. When cool damp weather comes I switch to all black to save the white shoes.

I don't see anything wrong with wearing all white shoes during this part of the year, If you feel the need to change to black then go for it but it's not really a big deal, and if your playing partners are more concerned you should play them, maybe they will be more concerned with your shoes and you can win some money haha. tongue.gif

If someone I was playing golf with even thought to bring it up I would accuse them of hitting on me. Seriously is this guy a"a little light in his loafers"? To answer your question WHO CARES! When you make it on the PGA tour then ask the question again and we will let you know.

PS. I hope the white shoes you are talking about arent those white shoes that look like athletic/aroebic shoes from the 1980's if so then your friend is right in any season. LOL

I think for the most part white golf shoes can be worn year around if it fits your style/outfit. Wear what you like and not worry about your friends preferences. Most sports athletes wear white shoes regardless of time of year.

I find it unbelievable that in this day and age people still see something wrong with men caring about what they look like and having a sense of fashion. I love fashion, I love clothes and I love looking good while I am out on the course. You dont have to wear JL to be fashionable on the course. I have prob 11 different pairs of FJ classics to wear with different outfits and wear Penguin, Polo, Burberry, and classic looking golf clothes. For all you guys who say stuff like "little light in his loafers" get some class and stop living in the 1950's. Get some class, stop wearing brown belts with black shoes, and buy some shirts that fit and aren't XXXXL.

Agree. Not to mention, this is a forum titled "golf style"
There's some awesome insecurity around here, though.... see the whole "Is it ok for men to wear pink shirts" fiasco.

Also Agreed.

I KNEW this thread could eventually get past the light-in-the-loafers mentality. Thanks, folks!

Traditionally white shoes should be worn from the first day of spring until Labor Day. Note that I said "Traditionally". It is quite common for people to wear white nowadays any time of year. Nothing wrong with it, just seems a liitle "off" to me.

It is also quite common for people to not know how to dress anymore, through no fault of their own. We as a society just don't teach people to dress properly anymore or to care about how their clothing looks. Just go to the mall or church or golf course and look around.

The accepted outfit is jeans and a t-shirt. No thought is given to what season it is or if the color matches the season. Which is quite sad IMO. I look at old photographs from the 40's-60's and see men who KNOW HOW TO DRESS. I have seen pictures of United Auto Workers on strike wearing suits, ties and a nice hat.....and they were beating the crap out of someone. A UAW worker today would have on jeans, a t-shirt and be covered in tats and piercings.

I don't like the fact that most people dress like they live in a trailer, but again, that is JMO. I truly don't judge anyone, I just wish we as a society would care about hygiene and how we look and dress. End rant

Back to the question....traditionally white shoes should not be worn this time of year because it is usually gray outside, damp and colder, so it would make sense to not wear white because they will not be white very long, but due to climate changes and trends in fashion this does not necessarily ring true. It goes back to being a personal preference. I prefer brown/black golf shoes in the winter and oxford loafer type golf shoes in the summer.

I care about how I look. This does not make me "light in the loafers". It just means I care about myself and care about those who are around me enough not to look like crap.

God i sure hope not, I have 3 pairs of golf shoes and all of them are white.

Well Stated , I agree fully. There is however only one thing that I have to poke fun at, and it is guys who wear white athletic socks with solid black and brown shoes. This ia the perfect place for an all white shoe.
wkuo3
No white golf shoes for me in the Winter on wet and soft turf, it'll be brown before I finished the 18.
wedgetoafoot
Yeah, as I read this I'm realizing the only thing I have other colors for is when I don't want to spend 30 minutes cleaning the mud off my white shoes after a round.

I dont think it is nearly a big deal that someone wants to wear white shoes or a white belt. We have people complaining about it, but nobody complains about 90% of the golfers who just go out on the course looking like absolute slobs. Didnt think trying to look nice and have some class is such a big deal.
