Anyone every play the course at Sandals Jamaica @ Montego Bay?

My girlfriend's friend from college is getting married there in November. Looking at their site, they mention that they possess a really nice course at the resort. I'd love to bring my clubs with me, but that can be sort of a pain in my butt.

So if I hear good things about the course, maybe I'll reserve a tee time before I get there and look for a travel bag for my clubs.

I just recently got married and went to the Sandals Ocho Rios resort in Jamaica. Not the same Sandals resort and probably not the same golf course, here's my $0.02.

$$

I decided not to bring my clubs because of the hassle and I only planned on playing once. I payed about $60 to rent a set of Callaway X-18's, X460, Odyssey XG-1 and another $3.00 for a bag of 10 tees. Glad I brought my own balls. They required a collared shirt, so be sure to bring a polo otherwise you'll have to buy one of their' shirts (it happened to some other guy). I payed the caddie about $15 or so.

Travel

Not sure how far the course is from Montego Bay, but we had about a 30 minute ride to the course and there about 5 or 6 shuttle times during the morning and early afternoon.

Course Conditions

As you can imagine, it's windy...so that'll play a big factor. Course was...nice...not spectaular, just nice. I've played better here locally (Omaha, NE).

The 2 big things I noticed. 1. The greens are hard as hell. I could not stop a shot on those greens. It would hit the surface and it would run off. Ironically, the greens were slow when putting. 2. The bunkers have VERY LITTLE sand in them. I kept trying to hit into the sand behind the ball and hit the bottom and then skull the ball. The ball would end up 40 yards away. On 1 hole, I was in the same bunker 3 different times...hit out...40 yards away. Pitch onto the green and watch it run off to the hole. Round and round. It was embarressing. It would have been better if just "chipped" out of the bunker.

Overall

Glad I played and I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure I'd do it again. Of all the things we did, this was probably the one I enjoyed the least. Honestly...at the Sandals resorts...too many people try to do to many of the activities instead of relaxing and enjoying the free drinks (which are REALLY STRONG). We also fell in that category.

I wish we would have enjoyed more time at the beach or pool.

If you plan on playing more than once, then take your clubs. If not, rent a set and enjoy the scenary.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to have to call the resort and find out where the course is in relation to the resort.

i went there, it was great, i brought my clubs though, and im very glad I did, the resort was beautiful, i got pretty smashed with those free drinks a couple nights hahaha

I definitely think if you plan on playing more than once, take your clubs. It was fun, but I think I enjoyed the beach, free drinks and other activities a little more.

Remember, Sandals employees CANNOT accept tips, but others that provide services expect it. So, the ride from the airport to the resort...tip the driver and the baggage handler (couple $$ each). If you do any excursions, you'll be expected to tip the workers.

However much you play, have a great time!

Are the green fees included as part of the "all inclusive" activities of the resort?

If you can make the trip to "white witch" I would recommend it. 6,758. 74.0 and 139 slope from the tips. elevation changes, and the caddies are great.
I think it was around $ 150 to play. Half moon and wyndam are ok...
(Shot my career round there, 74 from the tips in 25mph winds, finished birdie/birdie all thanks to my caddie)
have a great trip!!
Also, remember this is a 3rd world country, DO NOT get into a taxi without the "official sticker". Only goto Margaritaville during the day. If you go downtown for cheap shopping, go with a group and stay inside the Iron fences (sandal's employees will tell you about this).
Do not wander off the Sandals compound, as it is unsafe.
Have a great time

Yeah, no tipping is allowed in the resort but if you want to be taken care of slip the bartender a $20 early in your trip and you're golden the rest of the week. I went there on my honeymoon. I spent one day passed out by the pool after a "mixology" class. Woke up sometime during the middle of the night and found my way back to my room where my bride refused to open the door. Slept outside on the landing. I also won a beer slamming contest but managed not to pass out. Hey, 17 years later I'm still married and we laugh about those nights. Over the walls of the Sandals compound people will sell you crafts at ridiculously low prices. And skip a lot of the activities. Spend some time chillin'.

Golf, I don't know. There's so much to do there, I wouldn't spend the time playing golf on so-so courses...

Green fees are included, but a caddie fee/tip is required. If you don't bring them...You'll also need to pay for club rental, tees, balls, etc

I agree on White Witch. One of the best courses I've ever played. I was in Montego Bay for a week last April. I brought my clubs and played White Witch 4 times. I played Cinnamon Hill once only because I thought White Witch would have been too difficult for my wife. She agreed the views there were more beautiful than Cinnamon Hill. White Witch is a must play if you're down there.
