Playing yesterday mornning. Come to 14 a very long VERY VERY uphill (mountain course) par 3...hit the ball and it lands in an "enviromental area" and rolls down hill to the cart path...the only way it stayed on the path was that it was lined with large rocks...now in front of me all the way the green is this enviromental area...behind me is a straight drop down probably 100-150 feet all trash..the ONLY place to place the ball was either back on the tee box or up the hill a bit...up the hill would have put me about 10yeards closer to the hole and not even close the same line...any ideas on where this should have been played.

No rules expert whatsoever, but any closer to the hole is a no-go. So, you couldn't drop the ball --on the line it went into the EA-- within 2 club lengths of the EA? I would guess that that's the rule... but I don't know for sure.

best bet would be a re-tee.
