I'm a big Wie fan and there is no doubt she could make a cut playing with the Men , if she gathers her A game. I feel at this point if she continues to play in Men's events and keeps missing cuts, she really hurting her image big time. I totally understand what she's trying to do, but at this point its seems to me she is trying to "prove" something. She's got to focus on winning against the best Woman golfers and forget playing with the men. I could go on forever on this topic, but thats all i have to say for now.

I have no doubt by the time she is 20-22, she will be able to regularly make cuts and occasionally contend on the mens tour but she is not quite ready YET. I think she does run the risk of losing that wow factor if she keeps missing cuts. Her talent is amazing though for her age. Personally, I hope she plays the LPGA until she is 24-25 and then spends the rest of her career trying to make it on the pga when she is in her prime. I think by then, she will be bored with the LPGA anyway unless they start making the courses longer and harder.

Regardless of what she says, it seems like her goal now is just to make a cut in any men's tournament, not winning a tournament. People will eventually loose interest which is probably why she turned pro to cash in while interest in her is still high.
Tiger did it the right way. MW needed better guidance.

Hmmmm...."A" student at one of the top private college preparatory high schools in Hawaii. Father is a Professor at the University of Hawaii. Signed multi- million dollar contract with Nike at the age of 15. Gave away $500,000 to assist Katrina victims. She is easily one of the most recognizable and fascinating professional Women's golfers and very near being one of the biggest names in golf all at the tender age of 16.

I'd say she's far from being goofy, nor is she being led in the wrong direction. She's set for life....no matter what she does on the course. If I had a child, I could hope for nothing more from them at that age.

Let's stick to comments on her game and leave the ridiculous bickering about who's running her to other boards and forums.

Having played with her a few years ago (while I was living on Maui), I followed her career quite a bit closer than probably most on here.

Regarding her schedule, I agree that she should focus on the LPGA for now, just to learn - and get used to - winning events. I´m sure it´s only a matter of (a short) time for her...but I think it´s important to know for yourself that you can win on the pro tour.

Once she´s done that, of course she should try to compete on the PGA tour. I´m sure she´ll make cuts and maybe even contend at some time of her career, although the difference of making cuts and being in contention in any PGA event is quite a big.

I´d personally hope to see her in the Masters at some point of her career. Would be good for the game of golf worldwide.

Just my 2 cents.

She clearly has the potential to make the cut in a men's event, based on this event and last years Sony. I agree however that if this becomes her focus, it could distract from her main objective to become a dominant player in the womens game.

Morgan Pressel could sneak past her into the coveted slot as the next great player in the LPGA.

Putting simply isn't good enough and she isn't keeping her composure under pressure. I think she has to start concentrating on LPGA golf before she makes the step up. If she keeps missing cuts it's going to dent her confidence and her performance won't be as good on the LPGA tour.

I think you hit the nail on the head.. She has been trying to PROVE something to somebody, not sure who, her entire short career. I really feel that if she continues in this pattern of missing cuts, not only will it affect her psyche, but her sponsors as well. She needs to compete at her skill level and the Men's Tours are not the place for her.

I know.. Here comes the obligatory "She is only 16" post.. Then it will be the "She is only 17", "She is only 18" etc., etc..

Wie is undoubtedly a great talent, but she is HORRIBLE down the stretch. How many times has she been on or below the cutline in a men's event, only to throw it away in the last few holes? Even if she makes a men's cut, then what? It's not like she has even a remote chance of winning.

Now that she has her big contracts, there is really no point in further "publicity stunts". Wie should concentrate more on what is best for her career long term, and that is playing with the ladies and learning to deal with the pressure coming down the stretch.

I fear that she may lose her self confidence if she keeps on playing in men's events and missing cuts. This could damage her career long term.

Let's face it regardless of personal opinion the girl has game and there's lot's of kid's out there where there parent's don't give a crap where there kid's are and what there up to.She has grown up with plenty of love and good luck to the girl.Pesonally I think she's going to be the next best woman golfer on the planet.

Quite frankly I think everyone keeps missing the largest impact Michele Wie could have, and that her actions could hurt the LPGA Tour.
(hear me out here)

If Michele Wie starts trying more and more to play men's events and less on the LPGA she's doing a huge disservice to herself and women's golf in the long term.

Michele Wie gets rating, there's no doubt there, ut at some point the novelty of her on the men's tour is going to fade, and if she isn't in contention (I agree that she'll make the cut at some point) she isn't going to get any TV time since they seldom show those just above/below the cutline during golf broadcasts.

Now, if more and more girls start trying to make the PGA tour you're going to see less and less of the dominant women golfers on TV unless, on some rare occassions, they are in contention.

So now the LPGA will get even lower ratings on TV since no one wants to watch "B" level talent, and there are fewer and fewer super stars (all trying for the pga) and that means that they'll have a harder time getting a TV contract and less companies will want to sponsor events since they aren't getting a real return on investment with very little or no TV exposure. And of course that means smaller purses to compete for.

There will be fewer girls getting into golf since they'll feel some one like MW unable to compete on the PGA, what makes them think they can.
(imagine watching Tiger playing his "A" game and still getting whooped by 10 strokes, tell me that would scare the tar out of you)

You'll have women getting smaller endorsement contracts than they do now, if they're able to get one.

And in the end, I'll be the one to say it, women can't, on a weekly basis, compete on the PGA. It has nothing to do with being sexist, it has to do with common sense, men are generally bigger and stronger and hit the ball allot harder and further.

In my opinion MW is putting her own ego ahead of the game, pure and simple, and that's why I don't like it.

She will stop getting rating if she continues missing cuts. Her invitations to mens events will go from publicity stunt to joke in a nanosecond. When that happens...note the "when" not "if"...her career will be set on the correct path, which is on the LPGA getting stopped by Annika just like the rest of the ladies.

What if she never improved? What if her game now was as good as it was going to be?

Cashing in now and turning pro was one option.

The other was to toil away in JR tourney's and AM events for no pay with no guarantee that she would be better for doing it. Aren't the college ranks, Future Tours littered with 'golf prodigies' who broke par at 12 and never quite made it as a pro?

Sure a lot (most) of the top players on the LPGA played through college, but were they as good as Michelle Wie is when they were 16? Or even have the option to turn pro and cash out with guaranteed millions in ad dollars and appearance fees?

Gjones, I think you're giving her too much credit/power. This is one player, not even a member of one of the tours. This is not Tiger who paced himself and when he did turn pro, did so with a vengence. Michelle is an incredible young player who has had extreme coaching mixed with her talent. To date, she hasn't really done anything to merit the continued media attention. She can't close. Several times she has been in the final group(s) in women's tournaments, but hasn't finished better than 10th. Not that 10th is to be sneezed at, but 10th is also not 1st. Her putting has definitely been her comeupence. During those final rounds, just as she did on the closing holes at Casio, she presses too hard and makes really dumb mistakes. All of this really ruffles her nerves and she winds up finishing well back of where she had begun the day. Others are correct, because she hasn't fulfilled the hype (i.e. won or made a cut in PGA/Nationwide event), the fickle fans will desert in bundles -- along with bits of her Nike contract. Certainly, she is well known and recognizable. However, the golf fanbase is filled with a whole lot of what-have-you-done-for-me-lately kinds of people. If she doesn't win soon, whose going to care what kind of clubs or ball she plays with? The kid definitely needs to learn how to win, and at this stage, that can only be a possibility while playing LPGA events.
