You putt a ball and it comes up short, but is still a hanger. As you approach your ball and your shadow goes over the ball it lays the grass down, thus the ball drops. I say it's a stroke, not luck. Am I right or wrong?

Thank you in advance for the answers.

I didn't even know the grass lay down in shadows - anyways, if u do it within 10-15 secs after it finishes rolling it doesn't matter. But after that, who knows - if u haven't addressed the ball I don't think it matters

You may wait for 10 seconds after you have reached your ball. If it drops within that time, great! If it doesn't drop within that time you have to play it. If it should drop once the 10 sec are over you have to add another stroke even if you didn't make that stroke.

Sorry, but you're wrong.

16-2/3 Casting Shadow on Ball Overhanging Hole

Q. A player’s ball came to rest overhanging the edge of the hole. The player walked up to the hole and cast his shadow on the ball, believing that this would cause the grass to wilt and his ball to fall into the hole. Was the player in breach of Rule 1-2 (Exerting Influence on Ball) when he cast his shadow on the ball?

A. No.

you get a reasonable time to reach the ball, and 10 seconds after that to wait. Casting a shadow isn't deemed influence by the rules, so you're fine.

On the bright side, casting a shadow does absolutely jack crap to grass in ten seconds, so you can laugh at your competitor for his ignorance.

Thanks guys for the replies. And you don't have to say your sorry, Rockfish. If I had known the answer I wouldn't have asked. Now I know the rule, and that's better than being ignorant.
