This is from the golf channel's website where Butch let the cat out of the bag:

Specifically, Harmon told Mickelson to note how Tiger slows down his central nervous system simply by walking more slowly in the heat of battle. Harmon told Phil to watch how Woods putts out when he has the opportunity rather than wait around and let his opponent finish.

It makes sense seeing that Phil did want to putt out on at least one hole that I saw but is that such a big deal? Are we now going to see every guy out there walking slowly around the greens? Is Tiger now going to walk around faster and not putt out just to spite everyone?

Gosh I sure hope this doesn't carry over to the amateur scene...last thing we need is slower people out there on the course!

LOL... so true...

unless you have a gallery of a few thousand, not sure if putting out first helps since there is no one to scramble to see you on the next hole
Diesel
there's a psychological advantage to putting out, especially if the other guy has a 6 footer to save par...

Watch Tiger putt last from now onwards and kill the competition.

Like walking slower to calm your nerves is a big secret? How dumb are these guys? I think I learned that when I was 8 shooting free throws in a gym with my brother.

PSST- don't tell anyone, when the pressure is on, try and calm down. That'll surprise 'em for sure.

Please.....

You'd think that Butch would have laid a bombshell on him: Put your drive in the FAIRWAY!

Well when you think about it, ESPECIALLY golf, it's soooo much easier than we all think, we just need to pay a few thousand dollars to the top pros in the world to tell us these simple things, because when our 11 hdcp buddy tells us all we need to do is chill we dont believe him, but when the pro we pay 100+$ an hour tells us to keep our head down and just follow through the ball, then we actually listen.

Butch told Mickleson what he needed to hear, it obv helped Mickleson that it came from Butch, as he is an icon in teaching in this game.

Does anyone really believe that Butch told Phil to watch Eldrick to learn how to control his nerves? I think this is some sort of damage control...too much was made of Phils comment and something "harmless" needed to be said about the conversation between Phil and Butch about Eldrick. Well, I'm not buying it anyway.

I agree 100%. I bet Butch was ticked when he heard what Phil said. That was between teacher and coach and it should have stayed that way. Phil said that he chuckled as he played with Tiger because of what Butch told him. Why would seeing him slow down his nervous system make him laugh? The two stories don't jive.
But I have to say I was glad to see Phil beat Tiger. Golf needs Tiger to have a rivalry with someone.

Golf does need a rivalry. Tiger winning every third or fourth tournament has made it very boring to watch on TV and even more boring to listen to on TV.

Putting out, i should do it. If i make it i put a lot pressure on the other guy, if i dont, oh well, i might have not made it anyway. It makes me all anxious anyway if i have to wait.

What was it that Phil said? I heard about the Butch thing, but never heard what Phil said first?
