I have to give credit to Rich Beem for such a spirited run during the "playoffs". I like Rich, he is a player of such personality and really loves the game. Guys like him, Jerry Kelly, etc. are some of my favorite players to watch on TV. I honestly believe that if he would have put himself in better position in the points race he might have made the top 70 going to Chicago. I hope he comes back next year and has a strong season and finishes well.

So how bout it folks, any other players besides Beemer that you thought made a good run and came up short?

Something about him bothers me.

I don't like when guys call themselves by their own nicknames. Can you imagine Phil calling himself "Lefty" or Els calling himself "Big Easy?" On more than one occasion I've heard Rich Beem call himself "Beemer."

His dance was annoying.

When he sang Happy Birthday to himself, I found that quite cheesy.
I'm not taking anything away from his golf game and no hard feelings dcrabtree...

Sorry to jack your thread, I'll get back to it-
I suppose it doesn't really qualify as a "run" because he actually won a few times this year, but I was most impressed with KJ Choi this year, he's just a great great golfer, no nonsense, all business, does the talking with his sticks. You gotta love that.

I like the Beemer. Everytime I see him I think of the same thing. Man, he's hit the big time. He was a club pro not 6 or 7 year ago and then came out on tour and really did well. I admire that big time. Even if he jumps on top of Nissan cars. He's the Beemer.

The Beemer lives a stone's throw from me and the guy is the best. Does a ton for charity in the area. No nonsense is great for some people, but how boring would the tour be with a bunch of KJ Chois. Not here to sell books by any means, but if you like the Beemer, give this a try:

I actually like that commercial. I like when he did that, it was pretty cool.

I'm just not a big fan of the guy, that's all. Just a side-note, charity work does not automatically make you a like-able person in my opinion, while it is something worthy of mentioning to testify to a person's humanitarian efforts, Rory and Brad and Angelina do lots of charity work but I pretty much hate all of them.

I don't hate Rich Beem!

I think the biggest reason I like Beem is he gives the tour personality......yes, he can be cheesy at times, but he is kind of a throw back player that realizes that the fans pay to watch him and others play every weekend. In that sense, I think he feels they deserve a little entertainment. I read the aforementioned book in the thread above and it is a great read. One of the best golf books I've read.In that book he freely admits that he believes you should have fun while playing golf....and that's what he does.

I agree with Kenoli22, and certainly no offense to KJ Choi (he's a great talent) but how exciting would the tour be if everyone was like KJ? In my opinion, Tiger's not that personable, as are alot of the tour stars.

As far as the charity work goes, I put very little stock into that dictating wether I like a player or not. Because really, lets call these charities for what they really are.....tax shelters and a defense against the media for being weathly and not "helping" people. These guys look at charity work the same way they look at Wednesday Pro-am's.....a necessary evil. Now keep in mind i'm not saying every player is this way, but I would say a good majority are.

Back to subject a bit.......Steve Stricker is another player that has performed well this season an is continuing to perform well. I think his game is kinda Hot and Cold at times (who's isn't right?) but when he's playing well he's got some game.

If we are on the subject of nice guys, IMO Phil (Lefty) is at the top of the list. My brother was at the Deutche Bank last week and he was extremely courteous to all the spectators, smiled and acklowledged just about everybody that thew a compliment his way. He also told the crowd "don't worry, I'll sign an autograph from everybody. He's first class IMO.

I like Rich and that book is fantastic - the best golf read going around, even if you don't necessarily like him you will enjoy the book!

The Beemer is great and awesome for the game. He is an everyman that is easy for the public to relate with. drinks.gif

Jerry Kelly was mentioned. He really seems to always be having a good time AND he's got game.

I actually believe the exact opposite of the autographs. At the US Open there was at least 100 people there wanting to get an autograph from him and his exact words were " I would love to sign the autographs, but it's tough for me to sign with my bandage on." I guess he tried to fool the people and try to say that he wrote with his left hand when he actually signs with the right.

Ugh, that's kind of silly. I understand it though. I get tired of signing autographs for people too... my hand just cramps up.

I want to see Phil raw and real. He seems so rehearsed 90% of the time. I wish he didn't have the whole FIGJAM-robot-thing going on.

Interesting that you guys mentioned Stricker and Kelly in the same thread. I only bring that up because Beem's caddy, Bill Heim, also grew up in Wisconsin and was really a solid player. If I'm not mistaken he was an AJGA All-America and played collegiately at UTEP.

I like Beem as well. With some of these guys they have personalities of drywall, and you need to hold a mirror under their nose to make sure they're still breathing.

I don't think Tiger is very personable on the course either, but at least he shows some emotion, good and bad.

I was at the DB Champtionship on Monday and Rich and his caddie walked by me as they came up the 7th hole while i was standing along the ropes. I thought it was cool that Bill Heim said hello to me as he walked past. Seemed like 2 really nice genuine guys.
