Has anyone played on the golf channel tour am tour this year. I was thinking about doing it but haven's yet. I would love to hear some feed back from others and their experiences.

Seems pricey. I've checked some of the local scores/courses and while the courses seem nice, the scores don't seem to be "quite right".

I would agreeon the pricy part....200 bucks to join and then around 100 bucks for each tournament...which are only one round.

I would disagree on the scores...many seem very resonable if not on the high end.

I had thought about it also but after a $200 sign fee plus an average price of about $100.00 per event , it was just too expensive beee.gif

Many cities have many amateur tours for much less than the Golf Channel.

Does any one know of on in San Francisco or around the San Francisco Bay Area? I wanted to join teh GC Am Tour but they closest one has a base city of Stockton/Sacremento and that is too far drive every weekend. I'd pay more in gas then green fees!

I want to play good competition at my level.

I played on it when it was the Michelob Tour. And I've played on a couple of other tours. I love playing tournament golf but these things are ridiculous, at least the one's I played on. It probably has something to do with who runs the local tournaments. They played the courses at lengths that were too long for most of the players.
And it seems that when you put the word "Tournament" on it that the players go into slow motion. Much longer to hit shots and reading and lining up putts takes forever.
Most of the rounds were over 5 hours. I hate slow golf!!!!!!!!!
With the travel involved to some courses it was an all day experience.
Couldn't take it so I quit them all. Still wish I could play the tournaments but not under those conditions.

I play on the DC tour. There are over 225 members of this tour, and while some of the courses are nice and in line with the prices. The issue is that every event has been between 5 and 6-hour rounds plus they have a bad habit of putting different handicaps in groups. I believe that part of the issue is that they send higher handicap groups out prior to the lower handicap groups.

I've played in 4 events in DC and 2 in Vegas which only has about 25 players for each event. DC has trophies for the top player in each flight whereas Vegas gives out cash. There are also cash prizes for skins, closest to the pin.

The good thing about the tour is that I've met a lot of great people, and played a lot of courses that I never played before the tour. There are other tours in the area that are less expensive to play as another poster stated, but it's been a lot of fun thus far.

Too expensive compared to the other amateur tours in my area. I happened to play at a course where they were that day, and there weren't that many players. In fact, there was only 1 guy in the championship flight!
