My group of friends and I have a annual get together at some golf course. I'm the clown of our group, so I thought I'd spice up the day and get a Knickers outfit. Nothing wild, khaki knickers, orange/white argyle socks, and orange shirt. I've often heard, if you wear the Knickers, you gotta play the part, I'm right at a 25 h/c, nothing to brag about. I just thought it would be fun.

Anybody else wear knickers?

i'm not a knickers guy, but if it's done right, it can definitely be "pulled off" NO PUN INTENDED...!

so you're an average golfer, you're going out to play some golf with buddies, a yearly outing, you obviously don't take yourself or your game too seriously, i say go for it.

i hate seeing snobs with knickers on, almost un-approachable guys who are full of themselves.
doesn't happen too often but when it does, it's such a disappointment.

I looked into knickers when Payne Stewart was alive. They weren't available and had to go to one company for them. Expensive! Now knickers can be found at TGW for a lot less.
I am also the clown/life of the party with my fraternity golf outing and thought again about knickers. With the heat and humidity, I was against it. I was going the whole 9 yards, like shirt and tie-a la Payne at the Par 3 contest at Augusta. Then I stumbled on a web site called Sport-kilt (sportkilt.com). I thought it would be fun and comfortable and bought a set. No hinderance in the golf swing, people do watch (I'm a 8 handicap) and the girls want to see if your wearing any underwear. Not bad eh!
Sorry to take your post on another tangent, but wanted to give you my .02.
FYI: that's not me on the photo

No problem man, that's exactly where I was hoping the thread to go. I want to hear funny things like that. I'm very far from serious on the course. I mean, I do get mad on bad shot, but doesn't everybody. We got a guy out at the club who wears J. Lindeberg outfits all the time, you'd think he'd be unapproachable, but he just a normal guy who likes to dress it up a little bit. I say, just have fun and look good (ridiculous) doing it.

I got matched up with a twosome last week, and one of the guys was bald, pierced all over his face, and was wearing a kilt. Also had lots of tattoos. Oddly enough, I didn't think anything of it, and never even asked him about the kilt. He was an ok player (shot 91 that day I think), but was really friendly and encouraging to both his buddy and me.

I've wanted to get some knickers for a while now (and / or a kilt) but they are just so expensive.

Maybe I can convince someone to make them for me ....

I did look into the seamtress for the knickers and after discussing it she told me that the pants are 4 pair, being that the pleats are wider and more of them. So you can't just by a pair of slacks off the rack and make them knickers. Not to mention that you have to hem them down so that they can be gathered at the bottom. She told me that it would be better to just buy them. After giving it thought, it's better because if they don't fit you can return them for the right size. The kilt would be the same thing, the pleats would be a seamstress nightmare.

Payne made them look so cool...

I'd love to wear the "Payne Stewart" style, but I tend to feel self conscious on the course, so I'm holding off till my game gets good enough. I think he pulled it off tremendously, and actually wish more pros dressed the old-fashioned way.

Maybe I should try it anyway... maybe it'll effect me positively with the ghost of some old Scotsman!

You don't have to be a scratch player to wear knickers. As long as you have a sense of humor, you should be fine!!!!!

i definitely approve of those who "dress it up" a bit. i'm not quite to the point were i'm wearing a tie, but i could see that on the horizon.

i love the newer generation of up-and-coming stars (well really they already are stars), how they are almost going back to basics, slimming down, extremely athletic, wearing clothes that actually FIT, not completely tattooed with sponsors logos (usually!), it's funny how things happen. the equipment is so advanced but the fashions are sort-of going back in time. i love it.

Payne Stewart ruined it for everyone else as far as knickers. No one will ever be able to pull them off the way he did. Go with the kilt.

By the way. Half of Payne's look was his shoes.
