hey everyone:i would like to start out by saying i love watching the pga tour both on tv and at live events, but i do have some concers.first "lefty" phill not at this weeks tour champs,or next seasons opener the mercedes champs. just goes to show you that the tour season may be to long.i think tim finchem is moving in the right direction in trying to adress this, but as good as it sounds i find a problem.he want's to move the tour champs. to september with a three or four event series leading up to it so that we can make the tour champs a more important event on the tour schedule, but we need to becarefull with the events that will come after the new proposed tour champs. move.with this new format most of the top tour pro's would not play much if at all after the tour champs. makeing the rest of the events on the schedule starved for top name players and posiblly loosing money and not remaining as tour events.finally there has always been talk on tour as to how we can get the best players in the world to play more pga tour events and this is a step in the right direction, but tim finchem needs to understand that players only have to play a minimum of 15 events with most playing 20 to 25 and if some lock up their cards early you may not see much more than 15 events played.as i said earlier i love the pga tour, but in the end you will always have some events that will always be starved for top name stars in the field, but as the tour has done for many many years put a good run event out there regardless of star power and it will always be successfull.just my $0.02 worth witch has now turned into $1.25 worth HAHAHA!!! comments will be welcome and thanks in advance clapping.gif ok.gif

Simple solution (something that can be learned from the LPGA). Institute a new requirement that all PGA Tour Pros, Tiger included, must play all the events on the PGA Tour at least once every four or five years.

I had this concern aswell. The whole idea of the series building up to the Tour Championship sounds great but you are going to end up with a bunch of second rate events at the end which won't make sponsors happy.

I agree and if you want the big boys to play a the tour championship and others increase the purse and decrease the purse of some of the other tournaments.

The best players are ALWAYS going to gravitate toward the events with the highest purses. The winning amount for an event with a 3 to 4 million dollar pure is about $700,000 to $800,000. The winning amount for a tournament with a five to six million dollar purse is about $900,000 to $1.3 million. If doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out why the best players play the bigger purse events.

There are ALWAYS going to be events that are starved for top ranked players either due to scheduling or low purses. And I have to agree if you want stronger fields at ALL the events then do what the LPGA does and mandate that every player on tour has to play every tour sanctioned event at least once every four years unless it's opposite a major i.e. the British Open.

I'm going to weigh in...with something more than a flippant comment this time:

I understand the intention of the tour. I do, I get it. Baseball has the world series, football the superbowl, nascar has...whatever it has and golf wants its little end of the year shin-dig. Ok, I understand that.

What the tour seems to have completely missed is that IT HAS its superbowl in April. It has its world series a few months later, mixed in between is a little something called the U.S. Open and they end that with something similar to what Nascar has...we just call it The PGA Championship. None of the other sports have 4 intense, high drama, high attention events like golf does. Golf already has what its trying to create however it doesn't come at the end of the year.

Golf even has 1-up'd the other professional sports in that it has a points accumulating world attention grabbing event: Ryder Cup (and Presidents Cup).

What's the problem here? We need "something more" at the end of the year? Everyone already discounts the golfing season as over once football starts. Folks know matter how you slice it there are 5 events worth noting: The Majors and the Ryder Cup. Everything else is just fill in...I don't care what you do, that recipe will not change.

Ask the fans TIM...your council of the super rich tour players meeting with super rich tour managers is going to just F' things up.

My $.02...

Make it three, except the tornaments opposite the majors of course. Dont the LPGA have a clause like this
