While waiting for today's broadcasts to begin, I was watching a replay of game 2 of the College World Series championship game between Oregon State and North Carolina.

At one point, there was a brew-ha-ha between the UNC manager and the Ump about the pace of play. Anyway, Hershiser (analyst in the booth) made the comment that the UNC manager must have read Dave Pelz and subscribes to the philosophy of hitting 9 to 11 seconds after a practice swing to keep the feel.

Even though he didn't explain the reference, all the other announcers made comments which indicated they knew exactly what he was talking about.

I thought it was interesting (it must have confused (99% of the viewers though) and after mulling it over for awhile, it makes sense. Considering what a mechanical pitcher Hershiser was (and his position as a pitching coach), it's not surprising that he's read (and probably subscribes to) Pelz's philosophies on golf.

eh, i'd still prefer harold reynolds.

orel hershiser is great, but like all pitchers, he's kind of wacky.
