Was watching the telecast of the HSBC in China late Thursday night and noticed on a closeup of Kim's putter he had the single cherry dot with the Titleist logo next to it. Then tonight I noticed another close up, this time showing the face and he had the vertical SC logo and cherry dot on the heel. Last I checked he was gaming a version of the Studio Select with screws in the cherry dots.
And sorry, I have no pics so I'm sure this thread is worthless for some of you! This post has been edited by Huskypride28: Nov 6 2009, 11:24 PM |

Yup, it even says "Anthony Kim" on the bumpers. But other than that, and I think it has a sightline on the topline rather than a dot, it looks just like Tiger's gamer.

He was playing a buttonback but the one that he used last week and is using this week is definitely different. Looks like Tigers and has no insert. Putters are such an individual thing, much like any golf club but for putters especially it's hard to get guys to switch. This post has been edited by elrey23: Nov 7 2009, 12:01 AM |

AK put it in play back at the presidents cup, we covered it a little under the post regarding his black-finished button-back. As for nike I dont think they worry too much that AK is not using their putter currently, on tour it seems pretty common place for pros to use WHAT WORKS, (no knock at any company, just truth)!

Sorry, I did a search and couldn't find anything. Didn't know when he made the switch exactly. It being the fall season and from Philadelphia, my attention to sports has been preoccupied by the Phils and Eagles. This is the first bit of golf I've watched in a while, so bear with me here. As for Kim's putter, anyone know if he has the blacked out Pingman putter grip too?

As for nike I dont think they worry too much that AK is not using their putter currently Do you honestly believe that? I don't. Any Nike staffer not using the Method is a knock on their new baby IMO. Again, IMO, it doesn't help create sales for their new Putter when a staffer doesn't use it. It is helping Titleist/Cameron instead. If Tiger didn't game a Scotty, a Scotty would not be near as popular as it is. |

He caters to what people want and has plenty of options to choose from. Again, thats my opinion and my 2 cents. |

I don't think a Nike staffer using another putter is necessarily a knock on the new putters at all. It just speaks to how comfortable a player gets with a putter and making that switch is very difficult when the whole game is based on confidence. Has nothing to do with whether the putter is a good putter or not. |

Who cares that Kim has changed putters, honestly. He'll probably change putters many, many, many, more times in his career as will others who don't putt that great. I agree with others that Cameron would be just as big. I owned one when tiger was using a ping (I know that is hard to fathom that Tigers Scotty was not the first one ever built.) I guess I am just naive in thinking that people can use their own brains to make decisions on what equipment they should play. I mean seriously I guess if Tiger wiped a booger on the toe of his putter people would probably be saying "Hey Jimmy look at my pretty new one cherry dot, name on the bumpers Newport." "That's nice Jimmy, say is that a booger on the toe?" "You bet it is Bill, just like Tiger!" Anyways sorry about the rant and I did not mean to offend but just my 2 cents..

people really think Tiger doesn't influence companies.
1. Golf wouldn't be as popular if Tiger didn't play(Tourney he plays are way more crowded then non) 2. golfers wouldn't make as much without Tiger 3. Nike would have had a way harder time starting without Tiger Of course Cameron gets more play with Tiger. Yes many tour players wouldn't care but There is a reason that your local Doctor who is a 30 handicap has a cameron putter. |

Not a knock on Scotty Cameron putters but if Tiger used another brand it would for sure have some impact on Scotty's. How much is hard to say until it happens.

I play a scotty and I realize there are tons of comanies that can make the same shape, milled carbon steel, weight putter. They are good but nothing magic about any one company. Really a feel/look preferance. |

I really believe that most of it is in your head guys. If you were honset with yourself your first PING anser would be in your bag if you werent drawn to the CAMERON name or follow a PGA pros likes. Of course we all like new things but there is no vast improvement over the ORIGINAL. yes you can mill the head from a single piece of steel over the cast method but give me a break. Scotty is the man but he is a putter designer along with BURNS, BETTINARDI, GRACE (which i like alot), and so many more. I know a guy in a machine shop here in town that has a putter in play that he has shot 62 with twice and holds a + handicap and stands like a duck when he swings. To shot lights out like that you have to be able to putt. Give me a putter with face balance and a small grip at 34 inches and ill be on the green in 30 mins ready to go.

Watching the HSBC, I believe Ross Fisher is also gaming a very "Tiger-like" SC Newport 2, ie, single cherry dot with Titleist in the cavity.

Wonder how Nike will take another big name not gaming the Method putter...not too convinced on the new putter. 2 majors sounds like it is a good putter. Yes, but that sadly has nothing to do with real market power. Then you need both wins and fame. I listened to a podcast today. Only 3 golfers (doing good at a golf tournament) improve viewership according to a person at the Golf channel, Woods, Wie and Daly! |

Tiger's gamer is a beautiful looking Scotty, but I'm just surprised that AK and Fisher wouldn't want something more original.
