Nice shots! Forget the equipment, I want to know how you took the beautiful pictures (ie - camera, conditions, time of the day, etc.).

Thanks for the nice comments!
The Vokey was flamed by me as an experiment - it turned out nice, I think. It has already started to go rusty, but I guess that just adds to the character! Camera is a Canon 40D with 85mm f1.8 lens. Used wide open you get very narrow depth of field, not bad for a (relatively) cheap lens. The weather was overcast and it was mid-afternoon. |

You sure you actually play golf with those clubs?? I don't see a blemish anywhere! Great set and I have to agree - that wedge looks great. I like all of your clubs.

I used some generic stainless steel spray cleaner on the Burners - sprayed it on and washed it off with soapy water. It does get rid of the blotches that seem to appear on the smoke finish. The other clubs have just been washed in soapy water and dried with a towel.
The Vokey has been well used, but you do have to remember to dry the club well after use and preferably oil it - after all, it's raw steel and is expected to rust. When it gets too bad I will flame it again, it only takes an hour or so, including removing the shaft and replacing it. Not sure how many times it will put up with that sort of treatment, but this is the second time I've done it! |

I have looked at hundreds of "WITB" posts here over the few years and those are the clearest and best photos I think I have ever seen. As a photographer, you are a scratch. |

When you say flame... you mean with a portable blow torch?? and if so you hold it to the wedge for how long??? do you do a few minutes on let it cool and then another pass?
That finish is sweet... looks bluish. and you say you oil it after every round? also did you do something to the Cleveland aswell or is that a gunmetal finish... hard to tell from the pics... great shootin' brother the set is fantastic btw.. great set of sticks! None of the clubs are that new, the Callaway is about 5 years old and the Cameron over 10! I got the Burners in April and must say they are the best set of irons I have ever owned. The smoke finish has held up well, with only a bit of wear on the sole of the 8 iron. The 3 iron is fantastic off the tee, hit it as far as the 3 wood when you take roll into account. Years ago, I really used to look after my clubs, but these days all they get is an occasional wash every few weeks - changing priorities I guess!
As for the Vokey, I did use a portable blow torch and it took a while to get going; I began at the toe and kept the torch in that area until the colour started to appear (after about 10 minutes) - it then developed more quickly over the rest of the club as I moved the torch around until I got the effect I wanted. Edit to add that the bag is a TM Season Opener '08, it fits nicely on my electric trolley.

Nice set of clubs... the finish on the Vokey is incredible! I would hang it on the wall, way too beautiful to hit it in the bunker.

just beautiful looking clubs! I don't think my vokey's have ever looked nearly as good as that... How do you find the 909? I've been toying with getting rid of my 907D2 and recently got the 909F 3 wood and love it.

QUOTE (CheckJV) Do you recall the brand of cleaner used? It's CIF stainless steel cleaner, but I don't think it's available in the US. I'm sure any household brand will be similar QUOTE (kwakmania) How do you find the 909? I also have a Ping G10 with Prolaunch Red and a Nike Sumo 2 with Aldila Proto, which I think are both supposed to be fairly low launch, but the 909 launches lower and with a more penetrating trajectory. It's also about 10 yards longer than the other two. Not sure how much this is down to the shaft though, but it's a nice combo and feels/sounds great. The Nike is more forgiving though... QUOTE (mikec222) How many rounds do you play a year 5? About twice a week; not sure why they look so shiny, perhaps it's a trick of the light, they don't look quite the same close up! |
