any thoughts on correct ruling - during 36 hole strokeplay competition ,2 x18 holes on same course, same day
are you or are you not allowed to practise putt after finishing a hole -in the 1st round considering the hole is still in competition until it has been played in 2nd round rule 7-1b forbids practise on any part of course in competion rule 7-2 allows practise putts after finishing hole but is this rule applied if only 18 hole comp being played trust the question is clear |

The only time you can hit a practice putt on the course during competition is in match play. You can't hit a practice putt at any point during a medal tournament

The only time you can hit a practice putt on the course during competition is in match play. You can't hit a practice putt at any point during a medal tournament I actually dont think this is true. I believe you can practice putt during a medal round as long as you dont hold up play, but I dont know the answer to the question if you can do it between rounds, but i would think that you could. Similar to being able to change a club out for the second 18. |

You can putt or chip after you have finished the hole in stroke play competition on or around the putting green just played, on or around the next teeing ground, or at any practice putting green. (Unless, the local rule prohibiting practice between holes is in effect.) So yes, you would be able to practice whether or not it is 36 holes on the same course.

The only time you can hit a practice putt on the course during competition is in match play. You can't hit a practice putt at any point during a medal tournament This is most certainly not true. You see this on occaision on tour where a player will hi the same put he just missed. You can putt on the hole you just completed provided you do not hold up play. Here is the actual rule
7-2. During Round
A player must not make a practice stroke during play of a hole. Between the play of two holes, a player must not make a practice stroke, except that he may practice putting or chipping on or near: (a) the putting green of the hole last played, (b) any practice putting green, or © the teeing ground of the next hole to be played in the round, provided a practice stroke is not made from a hazard and does not unduly delay play (Rule 6-7). That being said the committee MAY prohobit this Note 2: The Committee may, in the conditions of a competition (Rule 33-1), prohibit: (a) practice on or near the putting green of the hole last played, and (b) rolling a ball on the putting green of the hole last played. The actual question has been addressed already in the Decisions and is perfectly legal as follows: 7-1b/7 Competitor Practices Putting on 3rd Green After Finishing Hole During First Round of 36-Hole Stroke-Play Competition ![]() Q. A 36-hole stroke-play competition was scheduled to be played on one day. During the first round a competitor, having holed out at the 3rd hole, plays a practice putt on the 3rd green. Is the competitor disqualified under Rule 7-1b for practicing on the course before his second round? A. No. A competitor is entitled to do anything which the Rules permit him to do during a stipulated round. Rule 7-2 permits a player between the play of two holes to practice putting or chipping on or near the putting green of the hole last played, any practice putting green or the teeing ground of the next hole to be played in the round, provided such practice stroke is not played from a hazard and does not unduly delay play (Rule 6-7). Because a caddie has to know |
