first of all, let me say that this, to my knowledge, has never occurred on this course. the majority of people that play here are college students, retirees and, like me, people that go out and try to squeeze in as many holes as possible after work. its your typical muny, with alot of history, in a very nice part of town and not a bad course at all. yeah there is some slow play, but not to the point that it gets so frustrating that someone would pull a gun because of it. it has been very hot lately (hit 104 yesterday), but its still not an excuse for this behavior.

i'm glad the dirt bag got caught and i hope he gets his due.

thanks jeep, for the link and heads up, we'll have to wear our bullet proof vest next time.

About 15 years ago I was playing with a bunch of buddies at a local muni in a bad part of town. I was in the last group of 4, but the guys in the first group were held up at gunpoint on a green. It happened several times back then, so much that several folks started carrying guns with them on the course. Seemed pretty dumb to me as they would leave the guns in their golf bags, which was what the criminals wanted in the first place. I never saw a point in having both my clubs and gun stolen.

That is one crazy story. Just more proof it doesn't pay to live in Austin or be a Longhorn.

Just wondering how slow could they be? The gunman is 73 years old? There must have been some sort of verbal exchanges that triggered the gun flashing in the parking lot. Not that I condone the act or anything.

I live in Austin and know Lions very well.

I am glad it was not a golfing buddy of mine that was confronted like that. My friend has a license to carry a concealed weapon and always has his pistol on him. Imagine that, a gunfight in a golf course parking lot.

If you want to see what type of man this wacko pulled a gun on take a look here. I see somebody that big and I just walk away. No need trying to play alpha male against a giant.

I like Texans. Some of my best friends are Texans.

But those of you who may think this is funny (or God forbid justified) just have no idea how bazaar this gun-toting appears to the rest of the country. Licensed to carry, ooncealed weapon laws...just too scary for words. A little road or golf rage + plus guns + mavbe a little alcohol + a little stress from work and a bad economy = dangerous combination. Yeah, I know, you have to protect yourself or your home. No, this is nuts.

Wow. Just wow.

Not only in Texas! This is about a year old:

Golf course fight lands one man in hospital, another in jail

Looks like I need to carry my catcher's mask and bulletproof vest in my bag..

EDIT: Looks like the guy is now facing 6-12 months in jail.. talk about slow play for this dude!

Convicted!

The way I've heard some people talk about slow players, the gunman was probably a WRX-er smile.gif

I hate slow play too, but it's never THAT serious. If you pull a gun out in a non-self defense situation, then you deserve to be thrown headfirst into a jail cell.

I can't believe they ROR'd the guy. No mention of bail in the Stateman's article. Just a note that he was not in custody. How is that protecting the people whom he threatened?

Wow it get's even weirder when you some of the local, excuse me loco, responses to the article in the comments.

"It wouldn't surprise me that those three aholes were mistreating the old guy and he ended up scaring the crap out of them. Without independent witnesses, I think the old guy may be telling the truth, or as much truth as the other three, anyway. Where Dailey made his mistake was in not eliminating them and then claiming self-defense."

What an insightful well though out response.
