I played a round with my two sons over vacation in Lake Tahoe. We played a match against each player. If you beat a player you got a point, beat both and you get two points. If you tie or lost you get zero points. The outcome was me, dan, matt, 6-7-0, Dan won the front nine. On the back 5-4-6, matt won the back. Dan and I tied the 18 with 11 points.

We think we made this game up, is this scoring method already a game or do I need to come up with a cool name?

What you've essentially described is three-ball match play.
