As many of you may know, Bob Bettinardi enjoys having a nice cigar while playing golf. He also enjoys having one after the round to. There are many companies out there that sell high end aluminum cigar ash trays for $400-800 and more ...
So, just as he said the first time he saw someone mill a putter head, "I can do that, and I can make it better."

6 months and a bunch of prototypes later....

http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Fe...44,2763,00.html

Bettinardi, a name synonymous with high-end golf putters, is set to debut its own version of a stainless steel cigar ashtray.

The ashtray is produced using the same materials and precise milling that have earned Bettinardi putters, known for their soft feel and one-piece build, high praise in the golf world.

The hexagonal ashtray is 100 percent double aged stainless steel, with copper inlays bearing the company name on three of the six sides.

The flat part of the ashtray's ring showcases the same honeycomb finish that is the signature of Bettinardi putters faces.

Inside, the ashtray features a bit of raised steel that Keith Webster, vice president of golf operations at Bettinardi, says will be customizable in the future.

"The center can be anything, really. A company logo, symbol, or perhaps a signature," he said.

The ashtray is surprisingly heavy, tipping the scales at eleven pounds even. Although this ashtray is built to rest, felt pads affixed to the bottom make it easy for any smoker to adjust the ashtray on a smooth surface.

The company will begin selling the ashtrays, which retail for $435, from its Web site, www.bettinardi.com, in July.

DASS or (double-aged stainless steel), is a reference to the steel being annealed (twice). The typical supply condition for 300 grade stainless steels is annealed. Annealing softens the metal and makes it less brittle and in turn produces a softer feel and a better medium to mill from.

Thanks!

Nick,

What is the size (diameter) of the ash tray? At 11 pounds, it should be pretty large.

I know of at least one smoker that will enjoy discovering this creation.

"Scratching head smilly" When its annealed it is at a certain softness, if you anneal it again its at the same softness? It might be brought to a different temp or quenched differently, but to straight up anneal to the same specs of a steel mills annealing will do nothing to anything. I know you are a Bett pro but annealing to the same state from the mill nets the same results.
I heat treat and have to return anneal stainless steel way more than I would like to and its the same state as it started.

nothing negative or anything but thats interesting how there could have been around 10 putters made with this piece of steel.thats 42.5 per putter according to the price of the tray.i know the milling machines are hundreds of thousands though so it evens out. btw thats nice to see bob tending to other hobbies other than golf so others can enjoy his quality milling as he is the most precise out there

I think it looks cool.

It even has the lines on it for when I use it to mark my ball on the green...

I'm kidding, but it does look cool.
