Jimmy of BettinardiLTD.com and Nick Venson of RJBCollector.com are happy to announce our first ever Design A Bettinardi Headcover Competition!
From now until June 1 you will have the chance to draw and submit your own ideas for a new head cover. Only one design can be submitted per person, so make it a good one! The cover can be themed to the time of Year (August/Fall) or maybe it is just an idea for a cover you want to see made, and has nothing to do with time of year or month. The winning design will be made and the creator will receive a free special cover as their prize! Below are attachments of a headcover template that you must use for your drawing. There are some stipulations and rules however. 1) Every Design must have BETTINARDI on it somewhere 2) Try to incorporate a HEX B into the cover. 3) Please do not do anything defamatory or derogatory on the covers. 4) It is ultimately our final decision on what can and cannot be done, if our favorite design is 95% perfect and 5% cant be done we reserve the right to modify the design to fit company guidelines and standards. 5) Have fun! This may be your only chance to design a headcover! 6) To submit your design please email all designs to... bettinardicovercompetition@gmail.com Thanks and enjoy! Nick & Jimmy

We already are getting a bunch of entries so one per person would be preferred. If you absolutely think you have 2 unreal ideas, email me both first and I will tell you which has a better shot in my opinion.

What does the winner look like? Why, they look just like you and me.
When a corporation (or its representatives) holds a design competition and never declares a winner or gives out a prize – we all win. How you ask? The secret is how the company is able to glean information from the collective entries. What colors do people tend to like, or perhaps a they’ll notice a clever arrangement of elements they hadn’t thought of before, maybe they’ll even blatantly copy the design and assume the individual who came up with it won’t have the legal backing to pursue a copyright infringement. After all, we never named a winner…who knows where we come up with our ideas. << insert evil laugh >> Besides after three months of quietly ignoring request for information on the winners, no one will remember the contest even existed. << insert another evil laugh >> So when the next great headcover comes out, those little bits of information and derivative influences might just make it the coolest design ever. We’ll have to run right out and buy it. And when we pay $499.90 for the putter instead of $499.95. We’ll know we owe that $0.05 to the great savings they realized by not rewarding ANYONE with a $30 headcover for the work they put into the design contest. $0.05 Savings + Cooler (yet derivative) Design = WIN WIN SITUATION |

Conspiracy, I don't know that I would call it a conspiracy so much as a lack of respect.
A lot of people put time and effort into their designs. I would think the least the sponsors of the "contest" could do is announce a winner at some point, or if they feel no designs are of a quality to produce, they should make the announcement of that fact and perhaps offer an existing headcover as a random draw prize to one of the people who submitted a design. Sure it's just a token effort, but it shows some level of class and respect. The lack of communication is quite disappointing, particularly considering the sponsors of the contest are quite prolific posters within the forum. It's not like they've been away and unable to post anything. The contest mentioned this being a August/fall design - well August has clearly come and gone. More disappointing is the fact that the company they represent makes such a beautiful piece of art in their putters. The sponsors are the ones extolling and defending the virtue of fine handwork, exquisite finishes, and artisan touches to their putters. Without that art, they're basically selling a $5 chunk of steel milled into a design entirely derivative of Ping's Anser putter. But – as they repeatedly point out – that art is there, they ARE making something unique and worthy of the investment. Because of that, it's particularly unsettling that they show such small measure of respect to the art and effort the entrants put forth. It's disappointing that a company that does wizardry in stainless can put such a tarnish on their reputation over something that would have taken so little effort to handle in a classy manner. |

Please tell me how Bettinardi Golf is being disrespectful to anyone who submitted a design. When the headcovers get here that's when the winner will be announced. Both Nick and I were asked to wait until the headcovers were finished by the director of golf operations at Bettinardi. It was a free contest and the winner will get something special for his / her design. Jimmy This post has been edited by jcigars: Oct 2 2009, 03:59 PM |

Seriously?
In simple social terms, someone asks you a direct question, you offer no response - that's disrespectful. That lack of respect is compounded when you are posting away in other topics while ignoring this one that you are a DIRECT sponsor of. From a basic PR standpoint. A proper response to questions about the contest would be "We have chosen a winner, the headcover will be revealed in a special announcement, we'll keep you updated." And then keep people updated, not so tough, 20 seconds to type. People don't mind hearing the truth, even if the truth is, you're gonna have to wait a while. By sitting silent, you are showing a lack of respect. Release a little bit of info and you create buzz. And if you have even a passing knowledge of intellectual properties law, I hope you informed the designer that you are using their design before you went into production as original works of art are the exclusive property of the creator until ownership is transferred by the artist. The contest was not free, when it comes to design, time is money. I'm fairly certain the pricing of Bettinardi Putters is based on the time spent milling and finishing the putters, not so much on the chunk of steel they came from. People put time into these designs, when you say it's free, you are not respecting their efforts. Many of the people who entered this contest did so because they respect and cherish the craftsmanship of Bettinardi's products. It would be nice to see them show the simple courtesy and respect of an answer when they ask a question. |
