Just got the golf channel and was watching the pebble beach coverage. Between the Boner Rx commercials and plugs about the GC EVERY 2-1/2 MINUTES it was unbearable to watch. I thought Network golf coverage was the worst but I'm wrong, GC takes the prize. Use my Replay to record all the non-major tournaments and zip through all the crap. Guess I have to do the same with the GC!
****************************************************** Sorry, MY APOLOGIES, I should have did a search for same posting. But I was so ticked at this "paid for premium channel" that I had to vent. I have three networked replay dvr's and hardly ever watch live tv except for fox news and weather. My NEW one cable box isn't connected to my dvr's so I had to unfortunately watch LIVE GC coverage. For you loads that posted your sick and tired of hearing about this. On the few occasions I watched live tv when my kids were watching, I see less commercials on shows like "deal or no deal" then the GC. Really pathetic. Come on, time it yourself, EVERY 2 - 3 minutes a commercial of some type. The Golf channel should rethink there commercial time and charge higher rates with less commercials or group them together after 15 minutes of "golf" coverage. It really is unbearable to watch. ********************************************************************** The GC "live golf coverage" is watching Commercials, Promos, Etc. with a few minutes of Golf in between. I think it should be the other way around. ******************************************************************** BTW, I will let the GC know my views. As I stated in another post -
2 words then - DON'T WATCH getting tired of all the negative posts about golf on tv. One week it's the network coverage, the next it's the golf channel, week after that it's the shows the golf channel shows at night. Thank god we at least have a dedicated channel. If you can't watch without bitching about it, don't watch |

I can complain all I want. If they listened to people who regularly watch (like myself) maybe they could improve their programming. And they might be able to do it for a lower cost.

Go ahead and complain; but for god's sake, can a mod combine all these threads into one? It's every freakin day.

whatever you do, quit watching it. then the ad revenue will definitely increase and the programming will get better.
don't you think they are basically stuck? they do not have enough $ or choices to run 24/7 programming, so they have to generate revenue somewhere, ie infomercials. until they create a larger viewing market, which creates more ad revenue, nothing will change, especially in a recessionary economy. all you guys/gals that hate it, (and i admit there are many problems) just imagine if it is gone completely. i think there will be some complaining then as well, no? |

You just have to use a DVR, period. But that's the same with all television imho. I never, ever, ever watch live tv. I'll wait 20 minutes just to let the DVR record a little bit then start watching. Works every time.

Exactly - people seem to forget that before the Golf Channel, we didn't get to see any of the Thursday & Friday rounds, except for the majors! The Golf Channel has to depend on the infomercials for operating revenue. They have a VERY small market share of viewers, so the revenue generated from commercials is minimal. It is a niche channel bundled with a group of other second tier offerings. For those who say it is their right to complain, you are absolutely right. However, the place to complain is directly to the Golf Channel. My guess is they will have a better chance of being seen / heard than they will on a forum that has no affilliation with the GC. The Golf Channel has lots of things that annoy even the most casual viewer, but I'll take what I can get out of them vs. the alternative of no GC! If the golf economy continues to decline, it is only going to get worse - less original programming, more repeats, and more infomercials! |

Press mute, buy a TIVO and skip commercials or just go back to your 3 local broadcast channels. Sorry you don't approve of the sponsors who support the channel, but please don't stop tilting at windmills on my account. |

I equate golf to pro wrestling in terms of buzz, viewership etc.
It comes and goes in cycles, and right now, it's gone. Just hope it does not turn into pro bowling, which has been gone for about 10 years now. |

I think some of the posters are right, too many threads on TGC not being all that great, so let's close this one which is turned into watch / don't watch, read / don't read.
