The Euro and OZ broadcasts stick with the golf and what the players are doing. The US is constantly cutting to graphics of stats and past winners with an out of focus tree in the background. I would rather watch a guy walking down the fairway then the FEDEX standings.
Then the commentators....so much dramatizing from the US guys. "WOW that is going to be impossible from there" or making out like the guy could die attempting this greenside shot... The player then proceeds to hit it to 2 feet.
My rant!

...If only that had better HD coverage. Sometimes I find the broadcast quality lacking. If the field is deep I do watch it, but sometimes I find myself losing interest, as many of the players are totally foreign to me. Their approach is certainly night-&-day to the US coverage. The Qatar this weekend was pretty good IMHO.

I do like some of the US coverage, especially Feherty, but its tricky when you've been brought up on the BBC and Peter Alliss................English Open at the Belfry, sometime in the 80's.....camera goes to a shot of a pair of Ducks and some fluffy ducklings by a lake..... Alliss..." Ah, just look at that, how lovely.....(pause)......nice bit of redcurrant jus, a few roast potatoes........marvellous"! Apparently the BBC were still getting complaints 3 days later cheesy.gif

But they DO have HD. Maybe your broadcaster doesn't support it huh.gif

In Dubai Karlsson hits a tree off the tee and ball rebounds straight back:

exchange between EPGA commentators in proper British accent

Well.....this is, uh.....well, a might bit embarassing for some players. I don't think Robert Karlsson has made it over(past) the ladies tee.

Oh dear, I hope they're not invoking the usual rules!

Don't mind listening to Faldo much, but some of the others got to go. The Euro broadcasting is strictly golf talk which I enjoy very much.

100% with you. Broadcasters are much better. I hope many of the PGA tournaments go belly up over the next few years for that very reason. Will force the pros to Europe and Middle East for the big money. With the stars playing there we would get rid of these morons that broadcast the U.S. tournaments. Hope, Crosby, Buick, Banks sponsored will probably fold up after 2009. Many are doing it already even though they have signed contracts ala Guinn.

I love Renton Ladlaw and Warren Humphries on the European Tour coverage on The Golf Channel. I think Faldo is a solid commentator and Miller, I really like how he will tell you how the player hit it (thin, fan, crisp or anything else) a millisecond after it leaves the clubface, however, I don't like his bashing of players. European Tour announcers seem to care more about the actual game and not BS like here in America. I swear if I hear Kelly Tilghman say FedEx Cup one more time I'm gonna freak out, she must say it 45 times a telecast.

On the coverage over here there is less chit chat from the commentators and more golf which is a lot better than faldo and kelly talking about how nice the bay looks like from the blimp for about 5 minutes. Also there are way less ad breaks and a longer run of golf between breaks. Hands down the coverage over here is way better. Such a shame setanta got the golf from sky as they show the rubbish golf channel coverage sad.gif.

Agreed, Yes the American broadcasts can be a little overbearing at times, yes TGC needs better talent, but I think the networks do a good job overall. Feherty and McCord can be funny, espeically Feherty, and Johhny Miller can be an a$$, but at least he is honest and speaks his mind. I get the feeling that the Euro announcers are so worried about being politically correct and offending someone that it gets thier panties in a bind. "Oh Renton did you see that lad hit that less than successful shot in the hazard, hmmm... never mind you know i really love the fish and chips they serve as I am strolling down the cobble stones at the market how about you, Oh never mind I remember once when Seve, the great man, once skipped his ball off that same hazard, I wonder why this Spanish fellow does not seem to be able to do the same?" boredom.gif

He is choking like a dog, just say it!!!! clapping.gif

I often find myself trying to watch Euro coverage on Saturday morning but find that I need and extra cup of Joe in order to get myself of the sofa in order to recover from the monotony. And no, I don't really think they show that much more golf, they show more shots of kids playing and sleeping in the gallery, more shots of ducks swimming in the pond, more shots of JL clothing the players wear, more shots of commentators wearing short sleeve dress shirts rolleyes.gif and lastly more shots of guys with really bad hair styles holding the most god-awful looking trophies I have ever seen.

I guess if you like prim and proper, it is the TV to watch, but it would be nice if the commentators showed just a little personality, a little wit, and they had some 21st century technology in terms of shot tracker etc.

Hmmmm...you may be right, but at the same time the entire "European" tour will end up in the Arabian peninsula and east Asia. The only big money in Europe, is in Dubai, LOL.

I like the PGA telecasts for the most part - Nantz has the classic voice, Feherty is a trip, Venturi, McCord, Johnny Miller gives great insight but hate when he goes off on a tangent about nerves, which he constantly does on Sunday's back 9's. Oosty, Murph, Maltbie, Koch are also good.

The Euro telecasts just seem dull to me whenever I attempt to tune in.

Jim Nantz - classic voice crazy.gif

His voice sounds like it's full of hot butter and smashed potato bad.gif

It's really an annoying voice to listen to - especially if you're NOT from America, I think smile.gif

I also enjoy watching the European broadcasts. The announcers keep it simple and real. They do not try to add too much to the broadcast. You get a sense that they really do enjoy covering golf and that they enjoy being a fan as well instead of it being a job. They allow the broadcast to flow naturally and what I enjoy most is that they tend to show more golf than anything else. I can care less about the essays and points of view of certain broadcasters here. JUST SHOW ME GOLF!

I'm not liking the voice over of Adam Barr or whomever TGC puts in to cover about the first 5 minutes of coverage after commericals. Let Renton and co. do the whole broadcast and they know what they're talking about.

Hmm.. as a "Euro" i feel spoilt a bit here. But i think there a range on both sides of the atlantic. Over here i feel maybe there's a bit more editorial freedom to allow folks the chance to bloom or to hang themselves. But we still have our share of dorks.

As an aside one of my favorite commentators was Dave Marr, the BBC drafted him after he was cast aside or left whichever american network he worked for. A true gentleman and I really enjoyed his commentry. I'd be interested how he came across in the US.

Also stunningly Jim Nantz did a cameo for the BBC on open sunday, came across beautifully as a consumate pro. He's just a bit to sugary for me on the US shows.

they show golf. thats why I like it. very few commercials, no real advertising for the resort they play.
one of my issues watching the LPGA, is I feel they have way too many commercials. for that matter so does the PGA.
i guess everyone has to pay the bills. but i think programers are loosing the foreset throught the trees.

My second reply on the subject, but just today, I was reminded
again what I miss about the Euro broadcasts. They never show the
announcers when golf is on and they are commenting. Today I'm
watching Nationwide coverage on the GC, and they show Michael Sims
warming up and an announcer starts to comment on him and they cut straight to his face
and we don't get to see that beautiful swing, just the announcer and him talking about how good it is.
What in the world would a fan want to see, a golf swing or a grinning announcer?

100% prefer European broadcasts. When I watch U.S. broadcasts it is always with the volume on mute and closed captions on. That way you can read the moronic comments and not have to listen to the actual moron.. Even listening to golf on satellite radio is more enjoyable and it is stupid beyond belief.
