You might have a hard time finding a answer to this. There are not many people who have hit the AP2s yet and therefore will not be able to give you a answer.

I have hit them both and I would have to give the forgiveness factor to the AP2 even though they have a thinner topline and less offset. The tungsten weight in the AP2 adds some nice perimeter weighting without making the head huge and the pocket cavity adds even more forgiveness.

The only other differences between the two is that the MP57 will have that buttery soft Mizuno forged feel ( too soft for me) and the Titleist will have a bit more click to them similar to other Titleist forgings, but not quite the same.

If you would like I can take 6 iron pics of the MP-57 next to the AP2 for comparison.

My same dilemma. I was looking that the MP-57's, the AP2's and the Bridgestone J33's from last year.


The J33's have a thinner topline. Doesn't Adam Scott have the AP2's in play?

Yes he is playing the AP2's and used them when he won and shot the course record 61 in the final round.


I'm in the same dilemma as well. Aesthetically, the ZB's look far better than the AP2's and the 695CB's look far better than the ZB's, but I'm not sure how they would compare playability/forgiveness wise. I like the lines on the J33 CB's but the long irons would be too difficult to hit. The MP57's look like the logical choice here, even if they are offset a bit more and have a thicker topline than the others.

Have hit the AP2 and the MP-57. AP2 looks nice and will be more forgiving than the MP-57. I think the Mizuno is much softer feeling and thats what i love about them. Was actually Debating to get the MP-57 to replace my MP-67's (I Sold them today and need to figure out which iron Im going to be playing next) Its between the MP-57, MP-60, and the new Bridgestone J36 CB.

I am in the same boat as well. I have hit the MP-57's into the net during my last 3 golf lessons. Pretty sweet club. However, I currently play Titleist 762's and am partial to Titleist. I cannot wait to hit these! I hope they feel as good as they look. I would certainly be happy with the Mizuno's though. They are real nice to look at as well. I wonder how the durability compares???

I am thinking about these two as well. What makes you think the AP2 will be more forgiving?

The MP57 has more offset and (at least from looking at the pictures) a slightly bigger clubface.

On the other hand, the AP2 has slightly more bounce.

Could you post a picture that helps to compare the width of the sole?

Does anyone know what the swingweight on the MP 57 with the PX shaft is?

The AP 2 is really a innovative iron, the MP 57 is nothing like a bit larger MP 60 with 7% more forgivness !!!-I think thats a joke and
the MP 60 were for me less forgiving in comp. to the MP 32.

The MX900's are much more forgiving than the 701's and even more so than the 57's. The biggest reason I switched from the 900's was due to the increased offset; since switching to the 701's w/ DGold S300's I've realized the shaft on the 900's caused some of my draw/hooks with the 900s as well due to the low kick point in the Dynalite Gold SL's. I am much happier with the ball going where I aim it but I have lost 10 yards per club (go figure-this will require further comparison as it has been pretty windy everytime I've hit the 701's). If I could get that distance back I would be pretty happy. I might be looking at some AP2's myself even though I've always prefered the feel and finish of Mizzies. When I look at them in the golf shop they have the look of a Rolex in the jewelry store-pure bling IMO

If it's any help, when I first hit the 701's, I thought I had made a bad mistake due to the lack of forgiveness but after hitting the 900's again I realized it was that my swing hadn't come out of hybernation yet. After finding my swing again and getting back to turning instead of swaying I am really liking my 701's but my guess is that the AP2's will be a little more forgiving and possibly get the ball up higher due to the tungsten in the sole (similar to 900's and others). Whatever you do hit 'em all and often before making a decision.

I was all set to get MP-57 irons and now these new AP2's have me interested. I like the overall look of the MP-57 irons better but I see little difference at address. I look forward to demoing a few irons to see how they play.

How do the AP2's compare to the MP-57 when it comes to working the ball? How does the forgiveness compare to the MX-25 irons?

If I were considering new irons then it would definitely be the AP2's.

I think this is the year I may be leaving Mizzy and heading to Titleist. I currently have the MP 32's and I think I'm going to the AP2's.........It may take a while and it may be hard to move away, but I need the extra forgiveness...........I love the look of the AP2's.........

I have hot them both and I would say its a nod to me. Both are about the same in terms of forgiveness but I think the Mizzy 57's look and feel better. I don't think you would go wrong either way.

I haven't hit the AP-2 (I think it looks like something from bladerunner) but I have hit the MP-57, and i don't think they're as soft as some other mizunos, but they are more forgiving than they look.

I'm a big titileist fan, but I haven't hit the AP2's yet. However, like the more traditional looking Mizuno's better at first glance.

After hitting both the AP2's and the MP-57's, it was easy to see both are very well made and the similarities were evident but again, their similarities were very different when it came down to feel and Mizuno was clearly the better of the two.

I like the AP2's and I would play them but, they just look so busy with their design on the back of the club. Looks for me are nice but not to that extent.

Also, has anyone tried the idea of taking the badge off the AP2's? I think that the clubs would look very clean if it was possible!

Anyway, feeling is such a personal thing that I think you need to hit them yourself.

Second that- I have hit both and would put the AP2's on top in terms of playability and feel on mishits, but the 57s on top in feel on dead center contact.

Overall, I would definitely go with the AP2s unless price is an issue. I think they strike a very good blend of workability vs forgiveness, espescially on high/low face contact. I hit a couple almost thin and still got a very high trajectory out of them- very impressive for such a small package.

Really, neither iron is going to hold you back as a player- theyre both freakin awesome. It almost blows my mind that we're debating which is better when 10 years ago people were playing with macgregor vip blades

I tested the PX 5.5 on the MP57 as well, but didn't play too many shots as instantly liked DGS300 better on that club. From what I hear, the PX is pretty hard on thinned shots and doesn't fit all swing types. I liked it on the AP2, but not on the MP57.

I've been told diggers and especially if you tend to hit DG's too high, the PX's have a slightly stiffer tip which their web site says gets the ball up in a hurry but then it planes out instead of continuing upward like DG's.

I was considering that until I played the AP2s. The AP2s are plenty easy to hit in my opinion. I am going to stick with my 585H 21° and AP2 4-PW.

I can get a set of customized MP-57 for an excellent price, or I can wait and get the AP2's for a tad more than the MP-57. My problem is that I haven't gotten the chance to extensively use either brand, just hitting them on the range/course. Only enough to say I want both, lol. Patience, patience. I have none, and I am driving myself crazy trying to decide between the two.
