Weight lifting exercise for increased club lag? Help please

I remmember reading a magazine article from a golf magazine back in 1995 that was called the golden exercise of golf, that the pros don't want you to know about. It required a 15 pound dumbell and you would only work your left arm for a right handed player. All I can remmember was that the guy stood up straight with the left arm hanging straight down with the dumbell in his hand. The guy would then lift the dumbell straight up so that his elbow would bend and form a 90 degree angle. He would also lean down on a flat bench with his right arm supporting his weight and his left arm hanging freely down with the dumbell in his left hand and again raising the weight up with just his left arm. He said, that he would do 50 of these lifts a day. He then explained due to his increased strength in a specific part of his left arm he was able to gain 20 yards due to his increased lag on the downswing. I realize this article was 13 years ago and I have no pictures to show the exercise. I just can not remmember the exact ways he performed this exercise and what I have explained was just from a faint memory. I am not sure if that is what he did in the article. I would like to know what exercises using your left arm would improve my lag on the downswing. I have the habit of casting the club and not holding the angle. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Driver address position for toe-out gate?

I've walked with a pronounced toe-out gait for 60 years and my legs naturally point outwards when standing comfortably (visualizing a V, my torso is the meeting point and the lines reflect my legs pointing outwards).

I've been playing for 12 years and have an 8 handicap thanks to my short game. I carry a six iron 150 yards and carry my drives 200 yards. I'm straight (miss two fairways/round), can share drives and alter trajectorieswork decently.

My position at address for all clubs is slightly open with both feet flared a little and if I have one "complaint" it seems hard to use my right shoulder efficiently in the downswing ie, a bigger shoulder turn = shoulder getting stuck behind hips that have limited speed and range of motion or a smaller shoulder turn and less power.

Any suggestions, ideas or resources would be very appreciated. Thanks

Attachments Question

Iis it only me (or my PC) that cannot upload attachments any time I want ? I have noticed recently that I cannot upload any single pic for a few days to a given thread since it says that "Upload failed. The file was larger than the available space" while inreality it wasn't. It also shows, before I even start to upload a pic that "Attachment space used 20.01MB of 20MB".
The only one exception was last Hogan Forum thread. Thought all is back in order, but it isn't.

Could any of the Forum Mods answer this for me and help with the issue ? Thanks in advance.

Cheers

Honestly I didn't know what to expect when I was sent the e-copy of the book this week, but I was shocked how well organized and thought out the book was.

Quick Background Setup: Andrew Rice is from South Africa and his strong golf game brought him to the states for Collage. After school he found a passion for teaching and spent 7 years working with Ledbetter down at one of David's schools in FL. He was brought up to Berkeley Hall in Bluffton, SC about 8 years ago to be the Head of Instruction at the Berkeley Hall Learning Center. His past and current students include many top amateurs, LPGA, Nationwide and PGA players.

The book: In the book Andrew explains how the idea for the book came about. While at the Verizon Heritage on Hilton Head with one of the PGA players he coaches, Andrew has his Ah Ha moment watching several players practice. He noticed something about the sound of their shots, they all sound the same, no matter what the swing looks like. He concluded it must then be All About Impact.

The book goes into detail about how he analyzed history top player's swings and the shocking results. Andrew uses wonderful full body images of these plays at different positions to prove his findings. The book also is filled with great photography of Andrew demonstrating everything he talks about from the swing, to practice, the sand game, drills and much more. One note about the drills, they are very easy to understand and the photos make a huge difference.

My favorite drill is call the Basketball Drill and it helps achieve the 84* secret angle at the top to improve impact.

After Andrew fully conveys his unbelievable findings the book then goes into other factors that impact the game. Such as practice and his theory of how to practice, shot shaping, equipment (club whores be forewarned, the latest is NOT always the greatest) and much more.

For those that are really into self swing analysis, there is an entire chapter devoted to this. Andrew goes through the how to, what equipment and even the common mistakes most people make when doing self swing analysis. One of the most helpful parts of the chapter are the great checks to remember when watching your own swing. They really keep you focused on what is import to promote the proper impact.

In summary I feel this book gives me the understanding and the tools to no longer stress over perfect fundamentals, form and what I look like at the top of my swing.
Head Dipping On Backswing - Drills to Remedy?

So I've been working on keeping my head still. I used to drift laterally backwards and move my weight as well. I have been able to stay centered over the ball now, but I am slightly dipping my head forward/down towards the ball on my backswing.

I know that having someone hold my head up is a good way to get the feeling, but unfortunately I don't have anyone to do that at the range. Are there any other drills I can do to remedy this? It's not a Charles Barkley sized dip, but it's something that I need to fix.

Thanks for any help!

Is there a doctor in the house?

I need some advice. I recently went to the doctor for acute lower back pain. After an MRI, I was diagnosed with DDD and a "slight disc protrusion". For the past 5 or 6 weeks, I have been doing a lot of stretching and core exercises. The acute back pain is gone; it is more of just a constant dull ache which I can live with. My question is about playing golf again. My understanding is that repetative twisting motion is about the worst thing for a buldging disc, and that playing golf will eventually lead to a ruptured disc. I can't imagine giving up golf, but I defenitely don't want to feel like a felt a couple of months ago again. I am only 35, so the thought of ruining my back prematurely is scary. I haven't palyed golf in a few months other than chipping and putting and not playing is getting depressing. I'm sure that others have been through a similar thing, and would just like some advice on whether playing golf is going to ruin my back. To me, it seems like my options are:

1. Play golf and rupture the disc which will lead to more pain and eventual surgury and possible decreased quality of life.

or

2. Quit golf, be miserable watching others play (I live on the #3 tee box) but save my back or at least put off major back problems.

Help please.
