Ping A-blade

I was cleaning the garage this last weekend and found an old putter of mine in one of my kids bags.
It's an old Ping A-Blade from... the early or mid 80's I think?
That's not much info to go on, but does anyone happen to know what type of material those things are made of?
It's not worth much more than the sentimental value and the memory of my best putting round ever , but I was thinking of putting a little money into it.
I don't know what material was used though, so I'm not sure what options I have for refinishing.
Anyone know off hand?

Follow up on the dead putter with SC Custom Shop

Follow up to the thread from yesterday, as promised, I am reporting back the solution.

SC is going to refund me all fees charged and replacing the putter with a new California model of my choice, and it will be customized base on my original request. This is much more than what I had asked for, which was to simply replace with a stock OTR and refund fees, or to source the same head and customize without refund.

Needless to say that I am very satisfied with the outcome, and very glad that SC came through with great customer service!

Disappointment with BOS

I dropped off a Cameron classics Newport to bos for refinish, paint fill and stamping. I went in to pick it up and was very disappointed. There were some rust specks in the cavity on the horizontal (bottom). Sheryl at the front was trying to tell me that they can't get their wire wheel in there to clean it up.

I wanted to get your opinions on that. Personally, that seems like a cop out. Ok, maybe you can't get the wire wheel there but what about getting in there by hand? Just seems like a lack of effort. What do you guys think?

I'm going back on Monday to pick it up because they messed up on the paintfill. Should I make a stink if the rust is still there? With their reputation, I would think to accept nothing but perfection.

What does Handmade mean? Hand Milled?

Is it OK when a putter is stamped "handforged" or "handmade" when it clearly isn't?

The intent of this thread is to get a clear cut answer on whether TP Mills simply chooses to stamp a putter with something that gives it a higher perceived value.

I would like to get an answer about this subject. There seems to be a few putters out there that I question about how and why they are stamped a certain way.

See below for examples:

http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=498412
http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=498411
http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=498410
http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=498409
http://www.golfwrx.com/forums/index.php?act=attach&type=post&id=498408

I post these questions of course with all due respect......

Metal putter grip?

I have a Winn midsize pistol and I do like it. However, it is pretty soft. I am struggling a bit with distance control and thought perhaps a firmer grip would be of benefit but have no idea to be honest what to expect. Would anyone share what grip they have on their putter and why. Particularly as it pertains to firmer than usual grips. But any other grip info appreciated of course. Looking for a new aftermarket shaft and need to find a good grip. Possibly a firm one. Winn has a new one coming out in mid Dec, likely in stores by early January. Looks nice, but not available as of yet. Just got off the phone with the nice folks at Winn. The model is below...

http://www.winngrips.com/?event=product.de...gripType=putter

Rife Antigua Putter Chew up balls?

I am getting to really love how this putter makes the ball roll forward instead of the skip off the face. But after about 100 putts, I noticed the face there is alot of little white speckles from the grooves pulling pieces off the ball. Is this normal?

UST Frequency Filtered putter shaft? Hype or the real deal?

Saw this at the top of this forum as an advertisement. Went to the site and checked it out. Reads well, but what about real world performance. I am getting ready to send my Rife Antigua out for a nickel bath and sound slot. Curious if there would be any performance improvements to add this shaft to the redo. Anyone used one of these putter shafts, read anything, heard anything, etc.. Beggers can't be choosers. Any info is most appreciated. And as a side note, thanks for the patience lately. I just found out about all the custom putter options when I joined here a few weeks back so I have lots of questions. I know you guys get tired of the newb questions but I appreciate your candor and thought it was worth mentioning. Link below to the shaft...

http://www.ustmamiya.com/shaft_models/product.aspx?id=69

.
