Additional Shane Lowry WITB notes, via Johnny Wunder

2019 Open Champion Shane Lowry, compared to Tommy Fleetwood, is on the other side of the spectrum in regards to brand loyalty. He is Cleveland/Srixon in 12 clubs including the ball with the only two exceptions being the TaylorMade M4 3-wood and his Odyssey Putter. In this case, that makes sense, those clubs seem to be a challenge to swap, especially the 3-wood, and Cleveland/Srixon isn’t really known for putters on the PGA Tour.

I got some interesting intel on his driver Switch from the TaylorMade M2 into the Srixon Z585.

According to Rodney McDonald, VP of Tour Operations for Cleveland/Srixon, Shane is a dedicated staff member that is always willing to get all Cleveland/Srixon in the bag.

On Lowry switching into the Z585 Driver McDonald had this to say

“The switch was very easy. Even though he had won early in the year with another driver, he was not driving it good at all. He is very loyal to our team and our products that he came to us to find a new driver. He instantly loved the look of the Z 585 and once we started testing the numbers were exactly what he was looking for. His main comment about the driver is how his misses are minimal and he can hit all the shots he wants to.”

But was he driving it “well”?

His eco lab putter also has a white insert, the eco labs in retail have black inserts. Sometime I think they only give the pros the good stuff and give cheap stuff to customers.

His putter did not look like a stock model. It didn’t have the EXO face. That is why we don’t see a picture of it.

I count 16 without the putter. There are 5 wedges in there. I wish the photos would be taken on the first tee, instead of on Tuesdays.

Yeah, that wouldn’t be distracting to the players at all. :\

There is a person with a clipboard at every tournament who inventories every bag on first tee. Snapping a photo would be quicker and more efficient. But thanks for the snippy comment though, I guess that made you feel better somehow.

Those of you asking about the v-sole, staff sets are grinded down appropriately.
How has nobody given daps to the m4 yet?
The dude won the tournament playing tee to green and hit nothing but excellent fairway wood shots.
Props to SL on the W and props to using what works.

    No v-sole on the irons?

    • Benny

      Jul 22, 2019 at 3:31 pm

Yeah I cannot see the V sole either. Wonder if the staff irons have less V because they know how to properly hit the ball?

How many clubs does Shane have in his bag?

It looks like none of his Irons have that ridiculous sole that Ian on most Srixon irons.

What an amazing win for Lowry and extra special to do it at home. He held it together out there in brutal conditions and definitely deserved that trophy!

Cool to see a Srixon staffer bagging their driver in such an important event. Only 2 wedges??? Must be a magician with both of them.

You meant Srixon 585 not “575”.

He definitely has a Nippon Modus 3 shaft in one of his long irons. Seen it on TV multiple times…
