In addition to the usual fanfare and drama that encompass the U.S. Open, a little piece of equipment is beginning stealing a bit of the spotlight from the stellar talent at Torrey Pines.

For quite some time there has been much speculation about the new Titleist drivers. Will they retain the bore through hosel? Will they stick with the radical shape of the D1? Will they make the leap to multi material technology?

The long anticipated debut of the Titleist 909 has finally arrived. Three models will be introduced, initially the 909 D2, 909 D3 will be hitting the PGA Tour. In the following weeks, the 909 DComp will follow as well.

All the questions have been answered, gone is the bore through hosel, the D2 and D3 appear to be traditionally shaped, and the DComp clearly has some sort of composite material incorporated.

Yet with the new pictures also spur more questions - will the drivers satisfy the launch conditions many golfers struggled to tune in the 907 D2? Will the DComp retain the traditional Titleist look and feel? How will they play?
