Lorena Ochoa blasted and stumbled her way to 68 and a 16-under one-shot lead today in the Safeway International. Her massive drives and so-so putting kept her in the lead as Angela Stanford slipped, fell, then picked herself sharply up at the end to finish at a respectable 15-under with a 70.
The riveting round of the day went to quiet and young Lee Jee Young, who carded an impressive score of 67 for the third day in a row, tying her for second place with Ms. Stanford.
FYI: Annika Sorenstam shot a 71, finishing minus-9. Other players of note were Inbee Park (12 under par) and Grace Park (7 under), who each parked a 65 on the board for low rounds of the day.
Recap: Lorena is a rock, Lee Jee is on a tear, and Angela is hungry. Sunday, under the shadow of Superstitious Mountain, they’re all looking for a touch of magic. Should be an exciting day of golf at its best.
