2008 GolfWRX Callaway Preview!
Callaway scored major points from many Golf Fans last year with its X-forged, X-20, FT-i and FT-5 drivers, woods and wedges. For 2008, Callaway follows up with new products to compliment and improve their Tour proven line.
The 2008 Hyper X Drive, X Fairway, and FT-i Squareway
The Hyper X Driver uses Callaway’s Hyperbolic Face Technology™ for increased forgiveness, more consistent ball speed and trajectory. There will be a Tour and regular version and of course they didn’t leave out the Leftys. What exactly is Hyperbolic Face Technology? Well according to Callaway its:
"The strategic parabolic shaping of wall thicknesses dramatically improves impact efficiency and produces the largest effective hitting area of any all-titanium driver Callaway Golf has ever made. This generates higher ball speeds across the entire face for significant average distance gains on off-center hits."
The 2008 X Fairway has also had its internal weights tweaked and sports a deeper face and modified sole to help with setup and alignment at address.
We haven’t seen pictures of the FT-i Squareway but we do know some specifics. It’s shaped like the FT-i Driver, the 3W is 208cc, and carries on with the Fusion technology with the carbon crown.
The FT Fairway and FT hybrid have gone through some major changes as well. Available in both Draw and Neutral configurations, they now both sport a stainless steel traditional hosel and a tungsten infused sole with a lower leading edge than the previous models.
According to Callaway:
"The only way that we could add the hosel without acting as a detriment to the clubs playability, was Fusion Technology and adding the dense soleplate in order to offset the weight that has been displaced. Fusion technology allows us to be the only ones that can do this."
08′ Callaway Irons
Callaway introduces the FT-ibrid. This is a super game improvement club that Callaway hopes High Handicappers will use to bring more enjoyment to their game.
According to Callaway:
"Designed for the ultimate in forgiveness in its oversized design with an increased offset, a large effective hitting and a wide sole that improves turf interaction. Fully Integrated Set Design – Seamless performance progression throughout the set provides consistent distance separation with optimal trajectories.
Fusion Technology
Lightweight Titanium Body, Heavy Tunite Sole Weighting, TPU Sensert Insert
Modified Tru-Bore , I-brid long irons CG 40% Deeper and 73% lower than Fusion Wide Sole"
The 2008 BB06 is aimed at the High Handicapper who needs super game improvement in the long irons. The long irons are made up ibrids to help get the ball off the turf and are fully integrated to offer optimal trajectories. The 2008 FT -Iron now sports a new head shape to attract the better player, higher toe, and thinner topline. This iron is aimed at the low to mid cappers with a modified True-bore.
FTI – Iron Left, BB06 Right
2008 X-forged Wedges
Forged from 1020 Carbon Steel, they come well equipped with "MD", Mack Daddy, grooves and feature a "C" grind on the 56* and 60* versions. They will be available in various lofts and bounces from 48* to 60* in two degree increments.
We hope you like the GolfWRX.com brief preview of the 2008 Callaway line. Callaway has listed various ship dates schedule for the first quarter of 2008 Calendar year. The forums are buzzing with more pics and comments so please join in on the fun!

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals who all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.
It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.
Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, @Slinger24 is selling a tour-issued Ping G440 LST driver head. The item, verified by the club maker, has nine degrees of loft.

What’s your favorite golf saying? – GolfWRXers discuss
In our forums, one user (and a new golfer to boot) has asked a surprisingly provocative question: namely, ‘what’s your favorite golf saying.’ The question inspired answers both expected and unpredictable.
@hankj asked:
I’m new to golf this summer, and one unexpected delight has been all the funny/pithy/telling/wise old saws (aka sayings) one hears on the course and around the clubhouse.
My current favorite:
It’s a long walk from the driving range to the first tee.
Ain’t that the truth!
Our members in the forum have been offering up their own favorite aphorisms. Here are a few posts from the thread, but make sure to check out the entire discussion and have your say at the link below.
- JimmyC59: “Regarding my own shots: ‘That’s a good miss’ and ‘Well, it’s not horrible.’
For golfers who get angry on the course. ‘You’re not good enough to get so mad!’” - Dabetic: “‘Scorecard doesn’t care’ re bad/ugly shots working out…doesn’t matter how you get it done.”
- Cellis: “Was playing a pretty tight course struggling with driver and was ready to shut it down for the day. Older gentleman I got paired with said, ‘Young man, just let the big dog eat, what is the worst that can happen, hit another ball?’ Helped me swing a lot more freely on the tee and become more successful not only that day but days on.”
- sheepdawg: “They call it golf because s**t and f**k were already taken.”

More about the Cobra OPTM Max-K driver:
The Cobra OPTM Max-K Driver is a highly forgiving golf driver designed for players who want maximum stability, accuracy, and consistency off the tee. Featuring Cobra’s highest moment of inertia (MOI) ever, the Max-K uses an oversized 460cc head, a low-and-back center of gravity, and an 11-gram rear weight to reduce twisting on off-center strikes and help keep shots straighter.

Cobra also incorporates its H.O.T. Face technology to maintain ball speed across a larger area of the clubface, while the FutureFit33 adjustable hosel provides 33 loft and lie settings for personalized ball-flight tuning.
The driver is aimed primarily at mid- to high-handicap golfers and players seeking greater forgiveness, high launch, and tighter shot dispersion rather than maximum workability.
