Golf Legend Jim Flick Passes Away at 82

Published

on

Sadly, the golf world lost a legend and a gentleman today.  Here is the press release from TaylorMade Golf…

Official Announcement from the Flick Family:

Revered golf instructor Jim Flick passed away today at his home in Carlsbad, California at 1:20 p.m.  He was 82.

Known widely in the golf world for his knowledge of the swing, enthusiasm for teaching and boundless energy, Flick left a permanent mark on the game. Throughout his five decades as an instructor he authored several books, hundreds of magazine articles, made numerous appearances on the Golf Channel and, most important, gave hundreds of thousands of lessons.

He worked with numerous Tour professionals including long-time student Tom Lehman, winner of the 1996 Open Championship and 2012 Charles Schwab Cup; and in 1990 Jack Nicklaus entrusted Flick to monitor his swing. Yet for all the work Flick did with accomplished players, he said often that the most rewarding of all his students were juniors.

Though he lived to teach, Flick himself never stopped learning, and one of things the game taught him, he said last week, was that golf is not about searching for the perfect swing or working at golf – it’s about playing golf.

Jim Flick was amongst the finest people I have ever known. He gave my wife and I lessons and treated us like family. As I got older and started to loose distance he showed me how breaking my wrists at takeaway would resatore the lost distance. I asked him should I try it with the woods as well and he said “only try it with the ones you want to hit further.” Miss ya good buddy…RIP

With the PGA Tour across the border in Canada this week, GolfWRX Tour Photographer Greg Moore stayed stateside and headed to the OccuNet Classic presented by Amarillo National Bank in Amarillo, Texas.

It’s always interesting to see what the guys are playing on the KFT, and this week certainly hasn’t disappointed so far, with some incredible wedge stamping on display.

At GolfWRX, we are a community of like-minded individuals who all experience and express our enjoyment of the game in many ways.

It’s that sense of community that drives day-to-day interactions in the forums on topics that range from best driver to what marker you use to mark your ball. It even allows us to share another thing we all love – buying and selling equipment.

Currently, in our GolfWRX buy/sell/trade (BST) forum, @HuskerFlyer is sharing a Scotty Cameron GOLO with a BGT Stability Tour2 2022 M Edition shaft. While the putter is certainly enviable, the Augusta-inspired shaft is equally noteworthy.
