Keegan shoots 60, leads at 10-under

Keegan Bradley only made five pars in Round 1 of the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Usually, just a handful of pars means a golfer is going to scramble to make the cut on Friday, but Bradley made 10 birdies and an eagle to go along with those pars, which set the course record at the TPC Four Seasons Resort and gave him a three-shot lead over Charl Schwartzel going into Round 2.

“I started off well, and bogeyed 18 and 1 which was disappointing, but got right back on it after that,” Bradley said after the round. “It felt easy, which it seems to feel when you shoot a low number. Seems hard when you shoot 75, but it was just a great round, great day.”

Bradley’s previous-low round on the PGA Tour was 63, which he shot during the third round of the 2012 Deutsche Bank Championship. It also ties for the lowest round of the year with Phil Mickelson, who shot a first-round 60 at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Ted Potter Jr., Harris English and Robert Karlsson shot 6-under in Round 1, while Bradley’s playing partner Ryan Palmer is tied with Angel Cabrera and Camilo Villegas at 5-under.

Photos from the 2024 Valero Texas Open

GolfWRX is on site this week at the Valero Texas Open.

The event has been around since 1922, making it one of the oldest on the PGA Tour calendar. Over the years, it’s been held at a variety of courses across the Lone Star State, but it’s found its home at TPC San Antonio in recent years. Some of the biggest names in golf have taken home the title here, including Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Lee Trevino, and Ben Crenshaw.
