You can’t beat Sergio’s PW size divots of the tee with the 3&5 woods…great. Large gap in the wedges…50 to 58?

Could anyone really hit a 103X whiteboard???
…..it must be a blueboard

I have read before that his driver is 43.5″ or 44″. That makes the swing weight about normal. Plus it has to be that stiff a shaft being that short. If he hit a 60 or 70 gram shaft 44″ his spin would be 4000.
Basically he is hitting a very large head 3 wood.

Assuming same head weight, cutting a shaft down makes it stiffer. So a whiteboard at 44inches is going to be a lot stiffer than a 46inch one if you do not add weight to the head.

Nice insight on the counter weighting on the irons. Very old school, makes a lot of sense for super stable impact, increased club awareness throughout the swing with very heavy specs, then counterbalance to make them easier to swing with speed.
My swing is more like Els than Sergio, and I have always used heavy shafts, to maintain club feel, after reading this I am going to try counterbalancing a set.

Aren’t those irons Rocketbladez Tour?

Agree 100% some free advertising for the Tour Preferred clubs but all I see in the bag (photos) are rocketbladez? Muckup?

Are we sure its a whiteboard in driver and fairways? For the longest time it has always been blueboard 103. Diamana doesn’t make a 103 or 93 in whiteboard at least for the regular guy but both weights in blueboard. I realize that doesn’t apply to pros as they can get anything they want but like I said its always been the blue in his bag.

He seems to play better without a regular caddy. I think mentally he can commit to the shot better when someone just tells him a yardage and he makes a plan from there.

Sergio’s WITB is not complete and deceiving if it is not mentioned that Sergio uses counter weights in all his clubs, meaning low SW. Though his clubs are heavy due to heavy shafts he can swing them just as fast. He is the only top PGA player to do this. KINETIC energy is 1/2*mass*velocity squared. Assuming velocity is constant and if total mass is increased results in higher kinetic energy. Another added benefit is that heavier clubs can utilize gravity more. One more benefit could be stability of the club head during the swing and specially at impact. All this results in efficiency and a higher smash factor. If you ever hear the sound at impact you will know what I am talking about. Johnny Miller always talks about it.

Utilize gravity more? Funny.
?!?!?!?!
Jan 25, 2014 at 3:12 pm
Utilize gravity???? Do you know anything about physics? Velocity is far from constant in a golf swing, it took all of 10 seconds to dismantle yours and Johnny “knows everything” Miller. Having a counterbalanced club will not increase your ball speed (smash factor). Counterbalancing is used to adjust SWINGWEIGHT, not to adjust ball speed, clubhead speed, ect ect. Swing weight does not increase or decrease swing speed, Overall weight of the club (which has little to do with swing weight) can affect clubhead speed, take ZERO advice from Johnny Miller.

Diamana Whiteboard 103x, He must hit Knuckle balls with that shaft, Crazy Low-Spin. Alot of guys have lighter shafts in their Irons hehehehe.

I am alittle surprised that his length in clubs are -1/2. I am not sure how his staff bag is made but I have a R1 staff bag and my wedges donot stand that high above the opening and mine are standard length.

He’s a walking billboard, thus always shiny clubs. I think the only things they let age are the putters and the wedges. Some old 3 woods. But the drivers and irons are probably force written into most contracts, thus why pro’s change them whenever the newest ones come out.

1/most likely: what the club says, and what the actual lofts are…arent always the same. These guys dont always take the time to bother telling us their 50 is bent to 52.
2) Even if it isnt….their courses are longer, they play different strategies…they rarely have partial wedge shots. lol the last golf magazine with Djohnson talking about his 7th ranking from 50-75y. he hit 12 of them in 2013 over 70 rounds. Only 12 measured 50-75y fairway or tee shots of his 595 total measured fairway or tee shots.
3) i know a handful of teaching pros who just use 1 wedge and change how they hit it. more rare these days. but possible

I play a PW, 52* and a 58*, not that different from him and I have no major issues with gapping. A little practice taking yardage off shots is all.
