Exclusive: In Hand Orka Golf 2009 Line-Up
Orka Golf – the little company making big noises in Europe has given GolfWRX an exclusive look at their new line up for 2009.
GolfWRX regulars will remember Orka’s FP3 forged irons and the excellent Kii Driver from reviews on Bag Chatter earlier this year. Since then, Orka have gained further recognition from print media culminating in winning ‘Best Player’s irons’ in a major British golf magazine for their PS9 forged irons, beating off competition from irons like the Mizuno MP-67, Cleveland CG Tour and Nike CCi.
Orka’s line-up adds 2 new drivers, a new range of fairway woods, a new hybrid and a new wedge, all pictured here, and 2 new irons.
Left – 2009 PS40, Center – 2008 Kii, Right – 2009 Kii CF
Crown of Kii CF Driver with PU paint
The Kii CF Driver is forged from 3 pieces of 6-4 Titanium and has a single weight port at the back generating high launch/low spin. Available in 9,10,12 and HL (14) lofts, with an Aldila DVS shaft it will retail at £129.
Sole of Kii CF Driver
Sole of PS 40 Driver
The PS40 Driver is cast from 2 pieces of titanium – the body being from 6-4 titanium and the face 15-3-3 titanium that has been CNC milled with Dynamic Face Design (DFD) technology and has a PVD scratch-resistant all-black finish. It also features 2 interchangeable weight ports. Both the Kii CF and the PS40 have PU paint across the crown. Orka tell us that this came from experimenting with large footprint drivers. The larger drivers with their lower Center of Gravity produced the desired ball flight and spin levels but with an unacceptable noise profile. Developing the rubberized paint allowed them to keep the larger footprint while retaining the sound of a conventional sized driver.
Available in 8,9,10,12 and HL (14) lofts with the same Aldila DVS shaft, the technically more advanced PS40 will retail at £269.
Face of PS 40 Driver
Sole of PS 40 Fairway and hybrid
PS40 fairways and hybrids are both made from 15-5 steel. The fairways are available as 3,4 and 5 woods while the hybrid comes in 16, 19, 22, 25 degrees.
RS18 Wedge
The RS18 wedge is a low bounce wedge forged from a single billet of soft S25c carbon steel, CNC milled and then hand finished and plated. Available in 52,56,58,60 lofts and priced at £89.
The new irons will be the GS5 and the GS5 OS, both with PU vibration reducing medallions.
Orka have been proving to be successful with club makers across Europe with their attitude to sell clubs singly and as heads only and have also started to gather a strong following on the Challenge tour as well as players on the Ladies European Tour such as double Solheim Captain Dale Reid and Corrine Dibnah, winner of the British Open.
