Brandt Snedeker, Jim Furyk WITB 2013

Published

on

With his victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Brandt Snedeker has vaulted to the top of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup standings.

The 1282 points he’s earned in five events — 3rd at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, T23 at the Humana Classic, T2 at the Farmers Insurance Open, 2nd at the Waste Management Pheonix Open, 1st at Pebble Beach — are more than double the amount earned by Brain Gay, who is second on the list with 582 points.

Snedeker has kept his clubs pretty much the same same since he won the 2012 FedExCup Championship last September. He’s added a new Fujikura shaft to his Tour Edge Exotics 3 wood, and switched his 60-degree wedge as well as the shafts in his 52-, 56- and 60-degree wedges.

Below is a full breakdown of what was in his bag this weekend.

Driver: 2010 TaylorMade SuperFast Burner (8.5 degrees) with Fujikura Motore VC 7.2 X Shaft

Fairway Wood: Tour Edge Exotics CB4 (13 degrees) with Fujikura Motore Speeder 8.1 X Shaft

Hybrid: Ping Anser (20 degrees) with UST Mamiya Proforce VTS 100X hybrid shaft (Black, low torque)

Irons: Bridgestone J40 Cavity Back with Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Constant Weight S Flex shafts (4-PW)

Wedges: Bridgestone J40 (black finish) 52 and 56 degrees with True Temper GS 95 shafts, Titleist Vokey TVD K Grind wide sole prototype (60 degrees) with True Temper s400 shaft

Putter: Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie (34 inches)

Ball: Bridgestone B330

Furyk’s unorthodox new driver, 3 wood

Just like Jim Furyk’s swing, his new Callaway driver and 3 wood are a little different than the rest of the guys on tour.

Because of Furyk’s extremely shallow angle of attach, Furyk fit into the non-pro models of the company’s X Hot driver and fairway wood, which have larger club heads and produce more spin and draw bias than the X Hot Pro drivers and fairway woods that have been popular on the PGA Tour.

Furyk’s X Hot driver is 460cc, 20cc’s larger than the company’s X Hot Pro and Razr Fit Xtreme drivers that are used by most of Callaway’s staff players. His X Hot fairway wood is 25cc’s larger than the X Hot Pro fairway wood.

Furyk's driver

As you can see in the photo above, Furyk is using quite a bit of lead tape to remove some of the draw bias from the X Hot driver head. The tape is likely necessary for Furyk to get the head to the proper swing weight as well, as the X Hot is 17 grams lighter than the X Hot Pro driver head. Check out Furyk’s exact specs below:

Driver: Callaway X-Hot (9.5 degrees) with a Graphite Design DI 7x shaft tipped 1 inch for a finished length of 44.5 inches

Fairway wood: Callaway X-Hot (15 degrees bent to 14.2 degrees) with a Fujikura 8.2X shaft tipped 1.5 inches for a finished length of 43 inches

Are there 14 clubs in the bag in the picture… Including putter makes 15… Is it me or is that one too many clubs?

    Just asking.

Snedeker’s bag is sweet. It’s got clubs from 6 different companies: Taylormade, Tour exotics, ping, bridgestone, Odyssey and Titleist. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pro with such a mixed bag.

The most interesting thing for me are the composite shafts in his irons.

That’s not a superfast TP head for Sneds?

Just goes to show you don’t have to have everything in your bag that matches and just paly what works for you what every that might be.

Could be a potential new sponsor. Available alongside 5-Hour Energy (at gas station cash registers) will be a salty snack for the road – “Furky Jurky”.

Certainly quite a plain bag from Sneds . . . Just goes to show!

Love that about Sneds, he’s using an older Taylormade driver (back when I liked them). Some nice standard Bridgestone irons and wedges, and one of the best putters, that’s certainly been broken in. Who needs fancy equipment?
