Honma launches 2022 Beres Aizu and Black collection
Honma Golf has launched its Beres Aizu and Black collections, the latest in the line of visually striking and luxurious equipment.
Speaking on the new collections, Janeann Lanning, COO of Honma North America, said
“This new line represents the latest breakthrough technology for golfers with moderate to modest swing speeds. Beres Aizu and Black allow golfers to make pure, stable swings with enhanced speed and powerful ball flight.”
The Aizu and Black clubhead designs feature identical technology; the Aizu line also adheres to traditional Beres 2-to-5 Star grading, with more advanced shaft technology as the grades progress.
Driver, Woods, Hybrids
Each driver features triple sole slots and an L-Cup face which aims to provide powerful initial ball speed. Optimal center of gravity (CG) design seeks to allow for a high trajectory, low spin, forgiveness, and distance, while the draw bias helps correct fade tendencies associated with modest swing speeds.
The triple slots bend at impact and rebound to increase ball speed, even on mishits, and the L-Cup face produces high repulsion across the face, maintaining an elevated CT value by not needing to weld the face. An evolved radial Ti6-4 face expands the toe and heel’s repulsive area in design to boost mishit forgiveness, while an ultra-low specific gravity titanium alloy, Ti811, thin-walled crown with varying thinness seeks to optimize impact deflection.
In addition, the new fairway woods and hybrids feature the new triple sole lot, thin crown, flexible face, and low-CG weight distribution designed independently for each head. Every wood seeks to offer unprecedented distance through ample speed, high launch, and easy-to-play draw-biased forgiveness.
Irons
The Beres irons are manufactured to offer a high trajectory ball flight along with forgiveness and stability on every hit – even misses.
A wide 3D L-Cup structure has a new ultra-thin face with vertical slits that are designed to improve the face insert strength – maximizing speed and forgiveness. Coupled with one external and two internal sole slots, plus a low-deep CG. The irons are designed to be easy to launch high with strong carry distance.
In addition, an 8620 Forged Body seeks to deliver Honma’s hallmark feel, while the 5-9 irons feature an L-Cup two-piece structure; 10-iron-SW have a flat face two-piece structure.
Shafts
- 2 Star ARMRQ MX shafts feature a T1100G bias ply that runs the full shaft length to maximize distance. Proprietary 10-Axis Sheet Metal Hybrid Armour Technology around the butt delivers stability and control.
- 3 Star ARMRQ MX shafts include high-strength M40X – highly-elastic Toray Composite that efficiently accelerates clubhead speed. 10-Axis Sheet Metal Hybrid Armour Technology and T1100G add clubhead speed and stability.
- 4 Star ARMRQ MX shafts include high-strength M40X – highly-elastic Toray Composite that efficiently accelerates clubhead speed. 10-Axis Sheet Metal Hybrid Armour Technology and T1100G add clubhead speed and stability. A lower kick point toward the tip increases swing speed and distance. 24K gold is also part of the design in the ferrule.
- 5 Star ARMRQ MX shafts they have the lowest torque and most technology. A high-strength M40X – highly-elastic Toray Composite that efficiently accelerates clubhead speed. 10-Axis Sheet Metal Hybrid Armour Technology and T1100G add clubhead speed and stability. T1100G in the bias layer strengthens twisting power and maximizes distance. 24K gold and platinum can also be found in the ferrule.
- BERES Black ARMRQ MX shafts feature a T1100G bias ply that runs the full shaft length to maximize distance. Proprietary 10-Axis Sheet Metal Hybrid Armour Technology around the butt delivers stability and control. They are also meticulously hand-rolled and finished in jet-black gloss.
The new Honma Beres line of luxury clubs are available to purchase now at HonmaGolf.com, with prices ranging from $499 for the irons to $1,149 for the drivers.

Spotted: Axis1 prototype broomstick putter
We have seen an uptick in longer putters out on the professional tours with players gravitating toward either counterbalanced or broomstick styles. As a refresher, A “broomstick” putter is a long putter that is usually built to a length that goes up to your chest. If you have seen Adam Scott putt in a tournament recently, he uses what is classified as a broomstick putter.
Axis1 might not be the most common brand in the world of putters but they have been around a while, most notably in Justin Rose’s bag.
Axis1 is known for a putter that doesn’t look traditional but a design is used to get the center of gravity to the center of the club face, aligned with the shaft. This technology keeps the face aligned with the ball throughout the stroke. More traditional putters rotate around the shaft axis, which doesn’t align with the center of the putter, making it easier for the putter face to not be square to the target at impact.
This week at the Valero Texas Open, we spotted a prototype Axis1 putter in a long broomstick version. The head shape looks very similar to the current Axis1 Tour-HM putter that the company currently makes, which is a more squared-off mid-mallet. The prototype looks to have a similar multi-material head with a 304 stainless steel face mated to a composite back. Twin site lines run together, on the topline and on the flange, to create a longer line for aligning the putter. The steel face has a fairly shallow milling to it, and the flowing heel hosel connects to the aggressive shaft bend.
A matching black shaft is installed, and at the grip end is Super Stroke’s Zenergy Tour 1.0 two-piece in white and black. No word on if or when this will come to retail yet.
