GolfWRX Spotted: Mizuno JPX 921 Tour irons (thanks to Bo Hoag)

Published

on

This past Monday, Mizuno teased the very first image of their highly anticipated JPX 921 series with a single picture of a steaming JPX921 Forged iron. You can check out the original story here (GolfWRX Spotted: Mizuno JPX 921 Forged).

Now, in a convenient turn of events, Mizuno staff player Bo Hoag went public with an Instagram post showing off the new JPX 921 Tour irons.

The JPX “Tour” series has been a massive hit for Mizuno since the original 900’s were launched in 2016, and the following 919 Tours were just as popular, thanks to their improved stability while maintaining the aggressive “Tour” look. To say the anticipation surrounding the JPX 921 tour has been high would be a fair assessment.

We only have the one picture so far but it looks at if the new iron will keep a lot of the looks that have made the Tour series popular including a satin chrome finish and compact head shape.

If there is one takeaway from the initial image, it is that Mizuno has taken some of the mass from the high toe and positioned more mass in the heel (compared to the 919), which would bring them more in line with the original 900 except for the overall deeper cavity. With it being the newest model, it is safe to assume that any design change was based on player feedback and testing.

It’s going to be exciting to hear the story behind this new iron once information is released, but if you are curious to hear what other golfers are saying about the newly spotted image, you can check out the GolfWRX forum here: 2020/2021 Mizuno iron discussion.

    According to Mizuno’s website:

“Smoke and a Chromoly stamping to the hosel suggest a possible coming together of Mizuno’s Hot Metal and Forged line up.”

What I want to know is what is stamped on the hosel? Is the tour going to be like the Forged and a departure from the material used in the 919?

They’re Mizunos so you know they’ll perform…but they took a step backwards in the looks department. IMO.

I agree, hopefully the blue paint fill is custom. Also, the cavity looks bigger/deeper than previous models. Played 9191t for a while great set of irons, so nondescript and beautiful

      Agreed, big step backwards.

The strip of chrome is the big detractor, other than the custom blue paint fill in Hoag’s set. I’ll reserve judgement until I see them in person.

Definitely. I like both of the previous sets better.

That strip in the middle of the club with the model name does really ruin the appearance. Will be interested still to see how they perform even if they dont have the aesthetic value of previous models.
