Tiger Woods Masters WITBs for his 5 wins

Published

on

At its core, Tiger Woods’ equipment hasn’t changed by much over the better part of the last two decades. However, the 15-time major champion’s equipment is constantly evolving, and there is no better tournament to witness that evolution than to take a peek into Tiger Woods’ Masters WITBs for his five wins.

A couple of major notes to consider: Tiger used a steel-shafted driver playing less than 45 inches all the way up until the 2004 season when he finally made the move from his trusted Titleist 975D long after the rest of the PGA Tour had swapped into newer technology. It was still another two years before Tiger made the move to a 460cc driver head in the pursuit of greater ball speed and forgiveness.

Tiger also held onto his 2-iron for a long time, and up until a few years ago would rotate it in and out of the bag with a 5-wood. 2019 was the first major tournament Tiger won using a 5-wood instead of his trusted 2-iron.

I remember him being one of the last, if not the last, players on tour to switch to graphite shafts in his driver.

Its the wooden dowels. That’s the secret sauce.

He definitely doesn’t change iron shafts. The TT Dynamic Gold Tour X100’s have been in his bag forever! I also had no idea he had a King Cobra driver in his bag in ’97.

In the 1997 Masters Kite finished -12 and Tiger -18. Kite was 6 back not 12. 276 would win a lot of years.

Kite was -6 under. 12 shots back

Gotta love the guy who comments so definitively that the article is inaccurate in reporting Kite’s score when a 2 second google search can confirm it.

Luckily for Tiger all the other big name players have a choke like a dog club in their bag!!! Was it two balls Molinari put in a pond at the masters??

How easily you forget Tiger’s poor decision making and “choke” that cost him The Open in 2018 just before this…

Did TW have a 5 wood in the bag for 06 07 PGA and 08 US Open. The author states it was TW first major win with a 5wood in the bad in 2019 Masters.

True Temper didn’t come out with “tour issue” versions of their shafts until the 2000s. No chance Tiger had them in his bag in 1997.

Probably the late 2000s before they started charging so much for weight sorting and the “tour issue” sticker. For a long time True Temper just sorted out the slightly lighter x100’s and sold those as s400 and the heavier ones as X200. Used to be able to get X200’s super cheap.

Well said Bob & Shep. Also to add X100 wood shafts Tiger used were also not the same X100 iron shafts. Was lighter by a few grams and custom to Tiger. Wrx had that article here couple years ago that broke those wood shafts down.

    4 Masters in 9 years… followed by a 14 year drought. Crazy.
