Cam Smith claims his friendship with Patrick Reed is finished as tensions rise at Presidents Cup

Emotions are running high at this week’s Presidents Cup, and Cameron Smith has continued his back and forth with Patrick Reed ahead of the opening day from Royal Melbourne, claiming that their friendship is now a thing of the past.

The Australian accused Reed of cheating at last week’s Hero Challenge, an accusation Reed took umbrage with, who dismissed those claims from the 26-year-old on Monday.

Speaking to the media at this week’s Presidents Cup, Smith described how tensions are reaching boiling point down under after both men’s disagreement on the incident, per the AFP.

“I’m sure he didn’t like it. I think there is a little bit of tension there. I’ve looked at Patrick a couple times but he hasn’t looked back. I’m looking forward to the weekend.”

But don’t expect Smith to make the first move in putting to bed their current quarrel, who added that he wouldn’t be going out of his way to speak to Reed this week, and how their friendship has disintegrated over the dispute which began last weekend.

“I definitely won’t go out of my way. I think our friendship, I guess, is not quite there anymore. I’m here to do a job for Ernie and that’s all I’m focusing on. I think it’s case of team versus team, what’s right and what’s wrong.”

Anyone for a Smith-Reed singles match at this week’s Presidents Cup?

I am sure Patrick lost some sleep.

Cam should really reconsider any friendship with the person who told him he should wear a flat bill.

Based on the hole-by-hole: Patrick Reed 4&3 over Ratface

Lesson: Don’t talk sh*t until after the prize is decided.

Cameron smith is an instigator. He took the situation with Reed and tried to turn it into something to use against the entire US team.
Reminds me of a spoiled snot nosed kid.

Sounds like this wasn’t a friendship, but rather an acquaintance … on both sides … friends would talk about what happened out of the public eye … just another occurrence of social media trash talking gone awry

DJ suffered the ultimate travesty at Whistling Straits when he ground his club in a bunker the size of a thumb, but wasn’t advised of situation until AFTER he holed out on the 72nd green…

Or we could just stick to golf and not turn the incident (which is OVER by the way) into a soap opera.

to even have a course like that is stupid…either make it a bunker or not….if it is not a bunker, you can ground your club. and when you have acres of soft sand like a bunker, how can you ground your club and NOT move sand. dumb design.

    • BWheatZydeco

      Dec 15, 2019 at 9:48 am

Oh really? I’m sure you are eminently qualified as a course architect and therefore exactly the person to critique Royal Melbourne.

Go back to your muni and quiet down little guy.

The Patrick Reed incident had nothing to do with Royal Melbourne.

    • Rich Douglas

      Dec 15, 2019 at 3:13 pm

      This misses by a mile.

It wasn’t the status of the area of play–whether or not it was a penalty area. The issue is that he improved his lie with his practice swings–something that is not allowed ANYWHERE on the course.

Did you not even review the event?

Brooks Koepka drops mic on Bryson’s trash talking

What started last year as a call out for “overcalculations” by Brooks Koepka on Bryson DeChambeau’s slow play during a tournament press conference has now escalated to what could be considered in the social media world as a full-fledged beef.

Unfortunately, in war there are casualties, and this morning a calculating Brooks fired a single shot that has so far left Bryson at a loss for words.

But how we got to this point could possibly be the most interesting part of the story.

Bryson made it very clear after the end of the 2019 PGA Tour season he wanted to get bulked and attempt to add up to 25 pounds of muscle to help gain speed and overall strength—what could have remained a quiet private endeavor in the gym quickly became the greatest gift from the golf content gods; Bryson DeChambeau talking non-stop about his workouts and how much bigger he was getting compared to golf’s favorite “built like a linebacker” individual, Brooks Koepka.

It gets weirder: trust me.

Beyond his time in the gym, one of Bryson’s favorite pastimes is playing Fortnite and streaming to Twitch (I really don’t get it either but to each their own). A lot is said in what usually accounts to a few hours of gameplay, but thanks to’s Luke Kerr-Dineen, we did get this little nugget from one of the most recent streams:

It was after this comment got back to Brooks that he “loaded the proverbial twitter sniper rifle and fired,” and let’s just say the replies might be just as funny as the initial tweet.

This is most likely not the end to this back and forth verbal boxing match between Brooks and Bryson, and for the sake of fun I hope it goes all 12 rounds.
