Brandel Chamblee suffers outrageously cruel near hole-in-one miss at Q-School

Golf Channel analyst, Brandel Chamblee, is in action at this week’s PGA Tour Champions Q-School and suffered one of the most agonizing hole-in-one near misses that you are likely to see.

Chamblee took to Twitter following his second round and recounted his experience on the 187 yard par-3 sixth hole at TPC Scottsdale along with a photo which would soften the hearts of even the outspoken pundits most fervent detractors.

“My touch was a little off… had 187 on the par 3 sixth today… only flew it 186 and 10 inches…. but really… how did that not go in?!??”

@chambleebrandel

Ouch.

Despite being robbed of his sixth career hole-in-one, the 57-year-old is still within striking distance of scoring himself a card for the Champions Tour after posting a two-under 69 to leave him in T17 and four back of the outright lead.

The top-5 finishers at this Q-School will all receive Tour cards for the 2020 season.

    No one wants to hear about anyone else’s “almost hole in one”. Nor do we want to hear about that miraculous shot you hit on 17 last week or the time you almost broke 70…

    I saw him at the Ally Challenge in Grand Blanc, MI this year. He is very personable and has a good golf game

    Honestly say what you want but that’s impressive that he can go out there and shoot 69. Have to hand it to him.

World Golf Hall of Fame changes age criteria; Tiger Woods eligible for induction in 2021

Published

on

On Tuesday, the World Golf Hall of Fame announced its amended age criteria for induction which paves the way for Tiger Woods’ initiation in 2021.

In 2016, the World Golf Hall of Fame rose the eligible age from 40 up to 50, but from 2021 onwards, the age limit will now be reduced back down to 45.

Speaking on the change, Jay Monahan, the PGA Tour’s commissioner and chairman of the World Golf Hall of Fame board stated

“Recognizing the game’s greatest players and contributors is an important endeavor and one our sport takes very seriously. We are committed to regularly evaluating the selection process to ensure we approach it with both historical context and the future in mind.”

As well as turning at least 45 in 2021, the criteria for consideration for induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame next year includes having 15 victories on a player’s home tour or two majors.

Tiger Woods, who turns 45 next December, would appear to be a shoo-in for the 2021 class, while other major candidates include, Jim Furyk, Henrik Stenson, Padraig Harrington and Lee Westwood.
